Chapter 19: His Eyes Were Filled Only with Her
“Father, mother, don’t lose heart. Tomorrow is when eldest brother goes hunting in the mountains; he definitely won’t be back by noon. I’ve already brought back the things mother asked for. Tomorrow, we will...” Su Ruyi began murmuring softly.
Upon hearing their youngest daughter’s words, Su Chen and Su Shan’s eyes lit up one by one.
“Good girl! Tomorrow we must let off this anger! We must make that damned little wretch realize we are not to be trifled with. How dare she blatantly show such disrespect and even lay hands on us? We’ll play dirty just like her!”
Though Su Shan said nothing, his expression showed he agreed with their plan.
In the room.
Luo Yunhe was carefully examining Su Jingxuan from head to toe, her delicate hands gently searching over his body to see if he was hurt anywhere.
Her soft, tender hands moved over him but found no bruises or wounds, prompting her to breathe a sigh of relief. Yet, Su Jingxuan’s face flushed a deep crimson.
His ears burned bright red, and his heartbeat thundered loudly.
Luo Yunhe was so focused on checking for injuries that she hadn’t noticed this. When she finally lowered her hands, she suddenly heard the pounding of his heart and saw his flushed ears.
Instantly recalling what she had just done, her own cheeks blushed deeply.
“Husband, are you still in pain anywhere?” she asked softly, bowing her head, afraid he might see her flushed face.
“My dear wife, I’m truly fine! Don’t worry. Such minor injuries won’t hurt me. But you, please don’t be so impulsive again!”
“Yes, I understand. I should listen to you. I just can’t bear to see them bully you!” Thinking of how Su Jingxuan was always tormented by his cruel mother-in-law, a fire burned within her heart.
How could such a good person be treated so harshly?
“It’s alright. I’ve grown used to it. Enduring it will get me through,” he said.
“Husband, sit down and don’t move. I secretly saved some of the lunch I made. I’ll warm it up for you right now.”
Luo Yunhe suddenly remembered the meal she had prepared at noon, a portion of which she had hidden in the cabinet, presumably unknown to them. With that, she turned and went to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, she opened the cabinet and found two bowls covered by plates at the very back.
She took them out, sniffed to ensure the food hadn’t spoiled, found a metal basin, added water, and placed it on the stove, then lit the fire to warm the meal.
When the food was nearly heated through, she carefully carried the two bowls back to the room.
“Husband, come eat quickly!” Luo Yunhe said excitedly.
Although she lacked extra seasonings to make a gourmet meal, she was confident her cooking would please Su Jingxuan.
Before him was a generous bowl of steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables with some meat, and, most notably, two fried eggs on top.
He could already imagine what kind of lunch Luo Yunhe had cooked to provoke such anger from their parents.
After all, he knew better than anyone how stingy his father and mother were. They never steamed plain rice; even having three pieces of meat in a dish was considered extravagant. Their porridge only had slightly more rice than usual. Eating a bowl of plain rice with so much meat in the vegetables was unheard of.
“Wife, you should eat too!”
Luo Yunhe was indeed hungry, but seeing only one bowl, she guessed Su Jingxuan must be hungry as well, so she shook her head.
After all, she had only eaten a fried egg at noon and hadn’t even had two bites of rice before Su Chen had interfered.
Hearing her, Su Jingxuan pulled her down to sit beside him. “Wife, I know you probably didn’t eat at noon either. I can’t finish this whole bowl alone, so let’s eat together. If you don’t eat, then I won’t either!” Saying this, he put down his chopsticks.
“No, you’ve worked all day. If you don’t eat something, how will your body hold up? I’ll eat just a bit, there’s plenty of dishes too!” Luo Yunhe insisted.
She knew if she didn’t eat, he certainly wouldn’t, so she picked up her chopsticks.
There was no need for Su Jingxuan to feed her; they took turns offering one another bites of rice and vegetables.
They gazed at each other with warm smiles, the atmosphere between them tender and harmonious.
While they shared this intimate moment, the three people in the main room were starving.
“Father, mother, I’m hungry...”
Because of the chaos in the kitchen at noon, none of them had eaten a single bite.
Now the sky was dark, and if they didn’t eat soon, the night would be hard to endure.
“That damned little wretch wasted so much of my grain. What am I to do? I’m starving too!”
Su Shan’s face darkened as he silently rose and sat down in the upstairs study, coldly staring at Su Chen. His tone was stern: “Go, find a way to make some food!”
Though Su Chen was extremely unwilling, she dared not contradict him. She grudgingly rose and went toward the kitchen.
Once there, she muttered under her breath as she searched every corner for food. Unfortunately, she found nothing that could stave off hunger.
Her face turned ashen with anger, and she cursed bitterly, “That damned little wretch, wasting so much of my grain. You truly deserve to die...”
Her voice was low, fearing they might overhear and anger Su Shan. After cursing, she hurried back to her room.
Though her voice was faint, the couple eating in the next room could faintly hear her curses. Yet, neither paid her any mind and continued their meal quietly.
Back in her room, Su Chen’s anger only grew. Muttering curses, she took some rice and flour from the cabinet.
Carrying the ingredients to the kitchen, she found some usable pots and pans and began preparing a meal.
However, she only cooked for herself, making no plans to feed the other two.
After dinner, Luo Yunhe shared with Su Jingxuan her desire to purchase a nearby vineyard.
She also revealed her future plans to him.
Su Jingxuan listened patiently to her ideas, even looking over the blueprints.
He hadn’t realized his young wife had so many thoughts and ambitions.
“Wife, if you want to do it, I support you.I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
