Chapter 10: Her Husband Bought Her Clothes
After feeding the pig fodder to the pigs in the backyard, she returned to her room. Looking at the injuries on her hands, she found a strip of cloth and carefully bandaged them herself.
As noon approached, Luo Yunhe thought her clothes hanging outside should be mostly dry, so she went out to collect them and change. However, when she went to retrieve them, she noticed something wrong. After sniffing them carefully, she realized there was an unpleasant odor on the clothes. Her expression turned cold and grim. She didn't need to think twice to know who was behind this petty trick. Suppressing the anger in her heart, she quickly thought of a brilliant countermeasure and returned to her room.
At noon, she waited for Mother Su to finish cooking before going to the kitchen to scoop some food for herself to eat in her room. Seeing her skip the cooking yet still come out to eat, Mother Su was livid, but she dared only to glare at her with venomous eyes.
In the afternoon, she stayed in her room reading. She waited until evening, when Su Jingxuan returned. As soon as he entered the room, he paused, seeing her sitting on the windowsill reading, wearing his clothes.
"Husband, you're back?" Luo Yunhe pounced on him happily.
"You, this..."
"Husband, your mother and sister made my clothes smell terrible. Even the ones I had just washed were ruined by them. I have no clothes left, so I had to wear yours. You don't mind, do you?"
"Cough, cough, I don't mind! Wear whatever you like!" Su Jingxuan said, blushing.
"But your mother and sister are being a bit too much..." Luo Yunhe said, looking wronged.
Seeing her pitiful expression, Su Jingxuan’s heart ached. "Don't worry. Come, look at what I brought you." He tossed a parcel onto the kang.
"This is..." Luo Yunhe opened the parcel happily, her eyes lighting up when she saw the clothes inside. Just touching the fabric, she could tell it was fine silk and satin. "Husband, are these all for me?"
"Yes, all for you!"
"But husband, where did you get the money for these? They clearly weren't cheap... And this?" She picked up a red ribbon. It was a red bodice, embroidered with a pair of mandarin ducks.
Su Jingxuan turned red and couldn't bear to look. "I’m willing to spend whatever it takes to buy things for you!"
Luo Yunhe loved seeing him blush; he was so cute like this. "Husband, shall I put it on for you to see?" She teased, waving the bodice in front of him with a mischievous smile.
Su Jingxuan stood up immediately, not knowing where to put his hands. "Well, you... you should try them on first. If they don't fit, I'll go exchange them tomorrow. I... I'll head out first..." He fled in a panic.
"Giggle..." Luo Yunhe couldn't help but laugh at his retreating back. Once her laughter subsided, she touched the silk and satin garments with care. This man was truly good to her.
Opening the entire parcel, she found four sets of clothes, each in a different color. At the bottom were two pairs of embroidered shoes, exquisitely crafted. She knew such shoes were not cheap. Based on her knowledge of the price of silk and satin, these four outfits must have cost at least ten taels of silver. Moved, she vowed in her heart to treat him even better.
When she put on one of the new outfits, it fit perfectly, as if it had been custom-made for her. She checked herself out and was very satisfied, feeling even more fond of Su Jingxuan. She thought about going out for a walk, but the moment she considered his parents seeing her dressed so well—which would surely lead to more trouble for him—her heart grew troubled again.
When Su Jingxuan brought in the meal, he found her sitting there, looking distressed. "Wife, what's wrong?"
Luo Yunhe stood up and took the bowl from him, placing it on the low table on the kang. "Husband, if you buy me such fine clothes, Father and Mother will be unhappy. Besides, I'm not that delicate; rough cloth is fine for me!"
Su Jingxuan saw her concern and smiled lightly. "My wife deserves the best clothes! Don't worry about what they think!"
"I don't want to bring you trouble. Husband, please take these back tomorrow and just get me some simple cloth clothes," Luo Yunhe said earnestly. Seeing her resolve, Su Jingxuan stopped insisting. "Alright."
Seeing him agree, Luo Yunhe quickly began to change, putting on his clothes again without a second thought for the fact that he was still in the room. This left Su Jingxuan flustered; he stood there, not knowing whether to leave or stay, his eyes darting everywhere but at her. Yet, the thought of her petite figure wearing his clothes sent a wave of warmth through him.
"Husband, have you eaten?" She looked up at the dazed Su Jingxuan.
"Oh, I... I'll eat outside!" After speaking, he scrambled to leave the room, his clumsy movements betraying his flustered state. Watching him, Luo Yunhe realized what she had just done, and her own cheeks began to burn.
"Husband, slow down..."
"Mm!" He finally managed to open the door and leave, closing it behind him.
Once outside, Su Jingxuan took a deep breath to suppress his inner agitation, a happy smile spreading across his lips. Mother Su, seeing him looking so lovestruck, gnashed her teeth in anger. "Bah! You shameless thing, acting like you've never seen a woman before!"
Hearing his mother's insults, Su Jingxuan’s smile vanished, his face becoming expressionless. He ignored her completely.
Luo Yunhe ate the simple, meatless meal with a frown. It seemed her plan to make money needed to be put on the agenda immediately. As she ate, she began to plan for the days ahead.
After washing up, Su Jingxuan entered the room to find Luo Yunhe lying on the bed, propping her head up with one hand and watching him. She smiled and patted the spot she had intentionally left empty beside her. "Husband, here."
Luo Yunhe’s sudden change left Su Jingxuan somewhat unaccustomed. He sat on the edge of the bed, blushing, his expression tense and his body stiff.
