Ning Chu looked at the freshly issued divorce certificate with a sense of novelty, while Dantai Chao’s expression remained unreadable.

When they returned to Chaoyang Manor, Ning Chu said to Dantai Chao, “I’ll move out as soon as possible in the next couple of days. I promise I won’t disturb you anymore.”

Dantai Chao replied calmly, “No problem.”

“By the way,” Ning Chu suddenly turned to him before entering the bedroom, “the reason you’re not doing well isn’t the main cause. The real reason actually has nothing to do with you. It’s that I want a divorce. I want to live for myself. We never really had any feelings for each other, did we?”

Ning Chu smiled faintly. “I’ll move out quickly.” She was about to taste freedom.

However, Dantai Chao realized that while poor health wasn’t the main reason, it was still one of the causes...

Once again, he doubted himself.

The servants had naturally noticed Ning Chu’s change, and judging by her demeanor, it seemed she no longer intended to live at Chaoyang Manor.

After the last of her belongings was moved out, Ah Hua stepped forward, “Madam, do you need us to send people to help with the rest?”

Ning Chu shook her head. “No, thank you. By the way, you don’t have to call me Madam anymore. I’m not your madam anymore. Goodbye.” She left, got into the car, leaving a group of bewildered servants behind.

“W-what did Madam just say?”

“Madam said she’s not our madam anymore?”

Ah Hua felt like crying. “Why isn’t she our madam anymore? She’s so beautiful and gentle! What happened between Madam and the master?”

Soon, the butler gathered everyone in the hall. “From now on, the only master of this house is the family head. Remember that.”

Ah Hua raised her hand. “What exactly happened between Madam and the master?”

The butler replied, “Remember, from now on, we have no madam.”

As soon as he said this, murmurs spread among the servants. If she’s no longer their madam, does that mean there’s trouble between her and the master?

Did they divorce? Weren’t they supposed to be a match made for alliance? Why had no one noticed before?

None of them knew the truth, but they didn’t dare ask further. After all, they were just servants; some matters were beyond their knowledge.

Ning Chu’s new home by the Deerwater Shore was a spacious single-story apartment, which felt quite large for just herself.

She had hired people to help pack her things — it was her first time arranging help on her own, which felt rather novel.

Ning Chu called Zhang Yan again. “Have you made up your mind?”

Zhang Yan was still stunned after hearing that Madam and the master had divorced. Her first thought was, who would she be assigned to now?

But since her salary came from the master’s side, Zhang Yan could only say to Ning Chu, “I might need to ask the master first.”

“Alright, I’ll wait for your good news.”

That evening, when Dantai Chao returned, Zhang Yan went to inquire, “Master, Madam… Miss Ning Chu asked if I should follow her.”

Dantai Chao glanced upstairs. “Where is she?”

Zhang Yan replied, “Madam already moved out today.”

Dantai Chao rubbed his brows. “If you want, you may follow her.” After all, Zhang Yan was originally assigned to Ning Chu by him.

Zhang Yan understood — this was his way of telling her to stay with Ning Chu.

Not long after, Ning Chu received Zhang Yan’s reply; she said she would come over the next day.

“Welcome,” Ning Chu said as she stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the night outside. She was alone in the entire house, yet she didn’t feel scared at all. Instead, she felt a profound sense of relaxation — complete and thorough.

Ning Chu closed her eyes, then opened them shortly after. Her gaze was resolute. She might have to face many storms ahead, but it was alright — she believed she could endure it!

She absolutely must endure it!

After freshening up in the bathroom, she lay down on the large bed and soon fell asleep.

The next day, Zhang Yan arrived early. “Madam.”

Ning Chu raised a hand to pause her. “Please call me Miss Ning Chu from now on.”

“Yes, Miss Ning Chu.”

“From now on, you belong to me. Let’s sign an employment contract first.” Ning Chu produced a contract from somewhere. Zhang Yan would be her assistant from now on, with a salary raised from twenty thousand to thirty thousand a month, plus a bigger year-end bonus. The social insurance and housing fund benefits remained unchanged.

“Where do you live? I remember you sometimes stayed at Chaoyang Manor.”

Zhang Yan replied, “Yes, but I have a place nearby. I stay there.”

Ning Chu said, “You can also live here. Choose any room you like; it can be your room.”

“Okay.”

“Next, help me pick out a few servants and take inventory of my assets...”

Zhang Yan took notes diligently.

“If you get too busy, we can hire someone else to help.”

“I’m okay for now.”

Ning Chu trusted Zhang Yan’s ability; otherwise, she wouldn’t have wanted her to stay. She also didn’t want to have to adjust to a new assistant.

“Oh, and help me book a plane ticket to Country F. I want to travel for half a month.”

Zhang Yan asked, “Do you want me to come along?”

“No, stay home and handle the tasks I assigned. Oh, if my parents come looking for me, just tell them I’m not in the country.”

“Yes.”

She had already prepared the gift for her mother. It was time to show it to her. She was sure her mother would be so happy she’d want to scream, and her father probably would too.

But... she probably wouldn’t be able to see it.

After arranging everything, Ning Chu took a photo of the divorce certificate. She planned to send it to her mother as soon as she boarded the plane.

Ready? Mother? Your gift is coming!

Meanwhile, Zhou Erqin was arguing with Ning Xingxian — it was about that mother-daughter pair.

“You not only gave money to that little wretch, but you even helped that old hag with medical expenses? What do you take me for?”

“Didn’t we agree to send them away? Do you know the circles are already buzzing with rumors?” Zhou Erqin sounded hysterical.

Ning Xingxian had been busy lately, dealing with the mother-daughter issue and company matters. Without new funding, a major project was likely to fail, causing huge losses for the Ning family.

Rubbing his temples irritably, Ning Xingxian said, “I told you, the company’s situation is tough now. We can groom An Sheng to marry into a good family. You can marry her off to anyone, as long as it benefits the Ning family.”

Zhou Erqin said, “It doesn’t have to be An Sheng. I already told Chu Chu’s husband; she will speak up.”

Ning Xingxian replied, “But the husband has been silent! Time is running out!”

“Can An Sheng just marry off immediately?”

“I’m planning to take her to meet some prospects in a few days. You should also find out what’s going on with Chu Chu’s husband.”

“Even so, you can educate that little wretch, but you absolutely cannot give money for that old hag’s treatment.”

“Ning Ru is in our hands. An Sheng will obey only because of her. We can use Ning Ru to threaten her. I guarantee neither of them will threaten your or Chu Chu’s status.”

“You must never give that little wretch any shares.”

“Of course not. Those belong to just the two of us.”

Suddenly, Zhou Erqin’s phone vibrated. It was a message from Ning Chu. Opening it, her pupils constricted sharply. Her movements slowed as if in a daze. She looked up at Ning Xingxian and then cried out, “Ah!” before collapsing straight down!
