A young woman of graceful figure pushed aside the tiger clan demon soldier blocking her path and stepped forward toward Yu Tingye. Pointing at Meng Yan, she said, “Lord Tingye, this man even killed his own brother, revealing how ruthless he is. If our tiger clan falls into his hands, I fear...”
“Nonsense!” Meng Yan cut her off, his voice tinged with agitation. “Meng Zhe’s defiance against Lord Tingye—what I did was righteous, extinguishing a traitor in my own family! How dare you spread such slander? What are your true intentions?”
“Sister.” Shuang Yu finally regained his composure and hurried to stand beside the woman.
She pulled him behind her protectively, then turned her gaze back to Yu Tingye. “Lord Tingye, Meng Yan is to succeed as Tiger King, but we refuse to accept him!”
“Shuang Yi, you despicable woman!” Meng Yan’s expression twisted with fury, as if he wished to tear her apart.
“Is it just you who refuses, or does everyone oppose him?” Yu Tingye asked calmly.
Meng Yan snarled fiercely, “Let me see who dares defy me!”
The tiger soldiers and warriors recoiled in fear.
Though Meng Yan’s demonic power was inferior to Meng Zhe’s, his narrow-mindedness and vengefulness made most wary of provoking him.
Shuang Yi frowned. “Meng Yan, don’t try to scare them.”
Meng Yan stroked his stubbled chin, smirking darkly. “Had I known, I should have dealt with you siblings sooner. But no matter—without Meng Zhe backing you, I can do whatever I please.”
He chuckled wickedly.
A flicker of worry flashed in Shuang Yi’s eyes. “Lord Tingye, you heard that, right? He dares speak like this in front of you. If he truly becomes Tiger King, our entire clan is doomed.”

“Doomed? That’s just fine.” Yu Tingye’s tone was expectant. The position of Tiger King belonged to Meng Yan and no one else.
“Meng Yan is Meng Zhe’s younger brother; inheriting his throne is only natural. Besides, the whole tiger clan opposes none of this. You alone object, but that counts for nothing.”
Shuang Yi could hardly believe she had misjudged him. How could such a handsome man harbor such darkness in his heart? What was she to do?
In a moment of desperation, she blurted out, “I want to see the Demon Sovereign!”
The air instantly stiffened.
In the demon realm, everyone knew the Demon Sovereign was Lord Yu Tingye’s taboo—mention her, and death would follow.
Shuang Yi fell to her knees with a thud. Since death was inevitable, so be it. “Lord Tingye, if the Demon Sovereign herself says Meng Yan may be Tiger King, Shuang Yi will raise no further objections.”
Luo Xue was about to speak, but Yu Tingye raised a hand to silence her. “I promise you, you will see the Demon Sovereign.”
He was determined to see if that ancient demon truly had changed, or if she was merely playing him.
If she was pretending—

In the bedchamber.
“Who said they wanted to see me?” Lin Xihe flipped smoothly from the bed to a sitting position. It was strange; someone actually wished to meet her.
As the original Demon Sovereign, she was notoriously reclusive, with no friends. She had many subordinates, but all were respectful to the point of fear. No one would just come to visit her.
A Jiu smiled. “A young woman from the tiger clan named Shuang Yi is waiting outside.”
“So soon.” Lin Xihe rose to her feet and dressed.
A Jiu quickly approached to help her with her hair and makeup. With just a simple touch, she looked stunningly beautiful.
Who would guess she was an ancient demon who had lived for over a thousand years?
She appeared no older than twenty-something.
“Does Yu Tingye know about this?” Lin Xihe asked A Jiu.
Just as A Jiu was about to open the door, she turned back at Lin Xihe’s question. “I’m not entirely sure.”
Lin Xihe uttered a soft “Oh,” thinking: Yu Tingye only forbade me from leaving, but never said others couldn’t come to see me. It should be fine.
