After a hearty binge-eating session at a Shaxian Delicacies restaurant, followed by a thirteen-hour summer "hibernation," Liu Dong completely revived his spirits and felt an extraordinary surge of physical energy.

However, as the old saying goes, a full stomach breeds carnal desires. Liu Dong's mind drifted back to that bizarre couple, particularly the figure of the young woman resembling Little Dragon Maiden.

Liu Dong lay helplessly on the hotel bed, bathed in the draft of an air conditioner set to 16 degrees Celsius, sighing at the injustice of the world.

Yet, if he were enjoying such blissful comfort at home, it would undoubtedly draw merciless mockery from his mother. The mere thought of this scenario snapped Liu Dong out of his decadence, and he silently planted a vague flag in his mind: I must make something of myself and find a girlfriend a hundred times better than Little Dragon Maiden.

"Making something of yourself" was far too difficult to define, but the latter half of the statement was quite concrete.

What kind of job should he actually look for? For a moment, Liu Dong could not figure out any specific direction; he was utterly clueless.

Thinking of his past factory days, a deep sense of disgust welled up inside him. After all, the unresolved aftermath of the previous "internet big tech company incident" had brought him far too much trouble, and Niu Zijian's past sarcasm remained an unforgettable, massive humiliation lingering in his heart.

Although what Niu had said was the truth, who is ever willing to have their vanity humiliated?!

Sometimes, the truth is like acupuncture: hit the right spot, and it cures the patient and wins their gratitude, but hit the wrong spot—especially a fatal one—and you must bear vastly different consequences.

He would absolutely never go back to a factory to tighten screws, Liu Dong resolved secretly. Yet, relying only on his educational background and abilities, what kind of work could he actually do?

Liu Dong fell into deep thought for a moment, but the word "factory" kept spinning relentlessly inside his head...

That was right! When he first entered a factory, someone had introduced him to the job, and that referrer seemed to have been met near the job market. Why didn't he just go straight to the job market to look for himself now? He refused to believe that, possessing at least a bachelor's degree, he couldn't find a job.

At this thought, Liu Dong felt the problem of finding a job was basically solved, and his mood instantly brightened considerably. Before he knew it, he drifted back off to sleep.

The next day, the weather remained sunny and scorching hot. Liu Dong got up early, boarded a public bus, and arrived at the largest job market in Gaodeng City.

Whether it was due to exceptionally poor luck on Liu Dong's part, summer happened to be the peak season when college seniors were about to graduate and enter society to join the workforce. Talent recruitment in every market was a red ocean. Standing outside the job market building in a daze, Liu Dong felt his heart go cold by half. But since he had already come this far, he might as well give it a try!

With a heavy heart and bracing himself, Liu Dong pushed through the main entrance of the market.

As soon as he stepped inside, he found that the first floor was unusually sparse with people, yet the crude notice boards were densely covered with recruitment notices—only that no employers had actually set up booths there.

Liu Dong felt a glimmer of hope rekindle, and he quickly began the screening process, examining the boards section by section.

Yet, after walking a full circle, the listings were either urging people to enter factories to tighten screws, or the salaries were utterly absurd.

The absurdity here did not mean the pay was too low, but rather that it was too high—so high that it easily reminded one of jobs involving offering a fortune for an heir.

After all, Liu Dong had working experience, and he still possessed the discernment for such things.

It seemed the mystery of why the first floor was deserted was thus solved, and Liu Dong had no choice but to head toward the second floor.

Just halfway up the stairs, a noisy commotion reached Liu Dong's ears. Sure enough, the upper floor was the gathering place for good jobs. Revitalized, Liu Dong bounded up the stairs into the second-floor hall in a few strides.

As expected, all the recruiting employers were stationed at orderly booths, complete with upright banners and standing giant posters... Many young people holding meticulously designed resumes stood in long lines, undergoing interviews with employers one by one.

After pacing around several times, Liu Dong grew somewhat distressed. Because he was not a fresh graduate, many high-quality employers were ruled out, leaving him entirely unqualified to compete with fresh graduates for positions.

Damn it, why did it have to be fresh graduates? He used to be a fresh graduate too; could his degree expire and become void just after two years? Whose bullshit rule was this anyway!

Seeing no hope in his job hunt, Liu Dong was simply ready to give up and look elsewhere. However, as he wandered aimlessly, he suddenly bumped into a familiar pair of figures. Yes, it was precisely the "bizarre couple" he had encountered on the train! Liu Dong's mood instantly plummeted to rock bottom. What a small world—how utterly bad-locked!

Just as Liu Dong was about to leave this heartbreaking place, a question suddenly popped into his mind: That couple had taken the train with him and were now looking for jobs here as well. Based on his own experience, even if he had misjudged them—supposing they were college graduates—they would normally find job hunting easiest and most likely to succeed in the city where their university was located. Yet they had taken a train to travel thousands of miles to this place. Furthermore, they were obviously not locals, nor did they have locals guiding them; how could they possibly find a job? Besides, their demeanor bore little resemblance to college students.

Harboring a head full of questions, Liu Dong decided to simply tail them to see what kind of bugged jobs they might uncover. Perhaps he could even swoop in and take advantage of the situation.

With this plan in mind, Liu Dong turned around and headed back into the recruitment hall once more...
