The Chronicles of Moses Liu Working for a Living, Part 4
With heavy luggage on his back, Liu Dong boarded the train leaving home...
He wondered how much Gordon City had changed by now, and whether the factory where he used to work was still hiring.
As Liu Dong was deep in thought, a young couple suddenly took the previously empty seats opposite him.
Unbeknownst to him, the train had arrived at another station, and this young couple had just boarded. To Liu Dong's astonishment, their appearances were striking enough to leave a deep and unforgettable impression.
The young man had rugged, coarse features, undoubtedly making him a northerners. However, his height was visibly under one meter seventy, firmly placing him in the socially recognized category of the "handicapped"—though who exactly set that standard was a matter for debate.
Standards were often established by authorities across various fields, yet this mocking "standard" that labeled any adult male under one meter seventy as "handicapped" kept creeping up year after year. Consequently, Liu Dong didn't feel much sense of superiority regarding his own height.
After all, Liu Dong himself stood at just one meter seventy-three, meaning it wouldn't be long before he too would be relegated to being "handicapped."
With that thought, Liu Dong shifted his gaze to the young man's facial features.
This proved even more memorable. His eyebrows were fused together in the distinctive fashion of certain ethnic minorities, and they were thick and dense. His eyes reminded Liu Dong of a character from a martial arts novel named One-Line-Sky. His nose hair looked as though it hadn't been trimmed in ages, the blackheads on his nose seemed ready to erupt at any second, and his mouth resembled Ouyang Feng’s sausage lips from *Ashes of Time*...
Though Liu Dong could hardly bear to keep looking, he was inwardly amused.
He then shifted his gaze to the young man's girlfriend.
My goodness, she looked straight out of *The Return of the Condor Heroes* as Little Dragon Girl—exquisite facial features and a petite, graceful figure...
Before Liu Dong could get his fill of looking, a flash of green-tinted glare suddenly made him shiver. Little Dragon Girl’s boyfriend seemed to have noticed Liu Dong's abnormally intense gaze fixed upon his girlfriend.
Liu Dong quickly reined in his eyes, while a murderous aura burst forth from the "sausage-lipped" man, rushing straight toward him.
Liu Dong considered himself older and felt no need to pick a fight with the fellow, though he still felt a slight twinge of cowardice. Even so, he immediately forced a nonchalant attitude.
His gaze grew casual and unfettered, and he began intentionally or unintentionally fidgeting with the mechanical watch on his left wrist, thereby averting a conflict sparked by a stray glance.
He could hardly believe that such an ugly guy was embracing such a gorgeous girlfriend. Moreover, judging by the young man's attire, he was just an ordinary migrant worker, and given his age, he certainly hadn't gone to college.
How could such an utterly ordinary guy land such a stunning girlfriend? This simply didn't align with the values his mother had drilled into him!
A male version of Ruhua paired with Little Dragon Girl—the discomfort churning inside Liu Dong was indescribable. For a day and a night of train travel, he had to endure the lovey-dovey display right across from him. Liu Dong's inner self was on the verge of collapse, filled with indignation and resentment.
They were both working-class stiffs; why did the flower have to be stuck in cow dung instead of blooming for him?
For the remainder of the journey, Liu Dong endured inner torment, the collapse and rebuilding of his worldview, until he finally made it through to his destination—Gordon City.
As soon as the train pulled into the station, Liu Dong dragged his luggage and practically fled the train. A wave of heat suddenly assaulted him. Without a moment's pause, he walked while trying to decide whether to find a job or a hotel first.
However, having long endured that bizarre couple on the train without any food, water, or proper rest along the way, Liu Dong felt his legs go weak and his head spin even before he could walk out of the station.
I need to find a hotel first. I need to eat, and I need to sleep—damn single dog that I am!
Clearly, Liu Dong was still brooding over his encounter on the train.
