The Pig-Castration Chronicle — Chapter Five: Memories, Part 03

Anji was somewhat worried. As the translator for this assignment, if she could leave a good impression on Mr. Kojima, his report might bring about a turning point in her university career.
After all, she was merely a third-year student majoring in Japanese. Building an impressive internship record, then joining a Japanese company or going to Japan for further study—those were essentially the only career plans available to students in her major.
Anji had won this opportunity to interpret for a Japanese veterinarian not only because of her excellent academic performance, but also thanks to her beautiful face and alluring figure.
She was unquestionably the belle of her department, and so many people across the university pursued her that there were even rumors that the department head wanted to be her boyfriend. Of course, that was only gossip—merely “rumor.”
One could say that God had opened every door and window for Anji, and had only neglected to tear off the roof. With advantages like hers, there was nothing anyone could do but envy, resent, and begrudge her.
As Anji sat in the car, wondering how to make a good impression on Mr. Kojima, she suddenly discovered that whenever she mentioned the Liu Clan Ancestral Hall, his reaction made her inwardly bloom with delight.
There still wasn’t a man she couldn’t handle. Hmph!
It was rather strange, too. Most ordinary Japanese people had little interest in their own country’s history, yet they were passionately fascinated by Chinese history—especially the Three Kingdoms period. Both Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Records of the Three Kingdoms sold extremely well among the Japanese public and in academic circles.
Liu Bei, the benevolent imperial uncle, was practically an idol throughout Japan. Perhaps his kindness and sense of honor resonated strongly with the spirit of bushido.
Mr. Kojima went from silent and taciturn to nodding enthusiastically and repeatedly crying, “Hai, hai!” He had completely fallen into Anji’s conversational rhythm.
In this way, Anji’s tense mood eased considerably.
When the car arrived at the entrance to Xiangtang Village, Anji and Kojima saw the Liu Clan Ancestral Hall at the edge of the village at the same time. Kojima’s eyes seemed to shine with light, and Anji noticed every bit of it.
The corners of Anji’s lips curled into a seductive smile. She took Kojima by the hand and happily got out of the car.
The Liu Clan Ancestral Hall was indeed magnificent and imposing, though its presence seemed somewhat incongruous in such a poor village. On the way there, however, Anji had already explained Xiangtang Village’s turbulent history of development to Kojima, so he no longer found it strange.

Kojima understood that the purpose of this assignment was to treat breeding boars, so he immediately suppressed his fascination with the Liu Clan Ancestral Hall and walked straight toward the road leading into the village.
Before she realized it, Anji noticed that Mr. Kojima had somehow slipped his hand free of hers.
“Look, Anji! Someone’s waiting for us!”
Only then did Anji come to her senses. She saw what appeared to be five or six people waiting at the village entrance, and they were now walking toward the pair as well.
Party Secretary Liu led the group. Beside him were Director Hao, Liu Pockmark, and Xiao Guo, while Liu Xiucai followed behind the other four.
Of the people Anji saw, only Director Hao—the sole woman—looked like a village official. The others looked remarkably like local street loafers.
Without shifting her gaze, Anji first took Director Hao’s hands in both of hers.
“Hello. We’re the agricultural assistance team sent by Such-and-Such University. We’ve come to help resolve the problems in Xiangtang Village’s livestock industry. My name is Anji.”
She then released Director Hao’s hand and smoothly turned her right arm toward the smiling Mr. Kojima.
“This is Mr. Kojima, an expert in animal husbandry!”
The entire introduction flowed as smoothly as water, as though she had rehearsed it countless times.
Director Hao naturally withdrew her hand and turned toward Old Liu.
“This is our village chief and Party Secretary, Secretary Liu Qingshan.”
Anji suddenly felt awkward. She had assumed that Director Hao was the highest-ranking official in the village, so she quickly stepped forward and shook Secretary Liu’s hand. Then she introduced Mr. Kojima behind her once more and immediately translated the situation for him.
Kojima stepped forward and shook hands with each of the five people who had come to welcome him.
Xiao Guo, who seemed rather shy, kept nodding at Kojima, the two of them unsure how long they were supposed to continue shaking hands.
At that moment, Liu Xiucai seemed to have turned every eye on his body toward Anji.
So this was what a university student from the city looked like! He had never seen such a charming city girl while working. Could it be that all the beautiful girls were hiding in schools?
His eyes glowed with avarice. When he saw that Anji had shaken hands only with Director Hao and his own father before standing still, he felt deeply dissatisfied. He bypassed Mr. Kojima, took several quick strides, and thrust both hands toward Anji.

Anji was startled by the tall, thin, dark-skinned man before her, whose long arms made him resemble a gibbon. With no choice, she extended her hand and gave Liu Xiucai a brief shake.
Then she noticed that the monkey’s eyes were fixed on her breasts, while he kept swallowing.
Anji forced an awkward smile and withdrew her hand, but inwardly she cursed, Damn it, what kind of creep is this, coming over here?
Seeing his son’s shameless behavior, Secretary Liu immediately stepped forward and kicked Xiucai in the backside.
Xiucai nearly fell, staggering several steps to the side. Still grinning, he said to Anji, “No harm done, no harm done. Welcome! Welcome!”
Anji had been rather angry, but the scene nearly made her laugh. She even stepped forward and helped Xiucai to his feet.
The gesture moved Xiucai deeply. At the same time, a fragrance he had never encountered before swept toward him from Anji’s body. Xiucai’s heart instantly soared. His entire body stiffened where he stood, while his eyes involuntarily fixed themselves on her full figure.
Anji noticed this once again. She was not angry; she merely felt that the boy was far too inexperienced. She gave an exasperated inward laugh.
Militia Captain Liu Pockmark had noticed every one of Xiucai’s actions from the beginning. He looked down on him intensely.
So what if she was a city woman? What kind of woman hadn’t he seen?
Meanwhile, Xiao Guo was still holding Mr. Kojima’s hand and nodding away like a pecking chicken...
