“Did Little Red fleece you again? It isn’t easy working away from home all by yourself, so don’t waste your money. Aren’t you still saving for your tuition? Be more careful when you’re around Little Red from now on!”

Manager Luo took the milk tea and let Little Ming go inside, while he continued staring at his phone and smoking.

Little Ming had no idea what Manager Luo was doing, and he did not ask. He simply went into the shop.

At that moment, Little Red was still playing with her phone. Little Ming handed her one of the drinks and then headed toward the back door.

Although the light outside the back door was extremely dim, he easily found the dormitory by following the distinctive yet faintly familiar scent clinging to Aunt Chen.

Little Ming handed the milk tea to Aunt Chen, who was arranging the beds. At last, she raised her head completely and accepted it with a smile.

“Thank you, Little Ming!”

“You’re welcome! Aunt Chen, how did you know my name?”

“Did you forget? Your work photo is on the background wall behind the front desk.”

“Oh, right!”

Little Ming began to feel that his intelligence might shut down whenever he was in front of Aunt Chen.

“I’ll head back to the front desk now, Aunt Chen!”

Just as he was about to leave, he noticed that the entire dormitory had already filled with that same peculiar yet familiar scent from Aunt Chen.

Little Ming fell into deep thought. Why did the scent seem so familiar? Why could he not remember, no matter how hard he tried?

As he hesitated, the words “Aunt Chen” suddenly reminded him of his mother.

That was it! Little Ming looked as though a light had suddenly gone on in his mind. The scent was very much like the faintly fishy smell of fresh milk that had filled the air when his mother fed him milk as a child. Yet it also resembled the scent on Little Red.

In fact, Little Ming’s confusion was perfectly understandable. The reason was that Aunt Chen was wearing the same perfume as Little Red.

The perfume had been specially prepared by the company for its female employees.

Company regulations required all female employees to wear the uniform perfume provided by the company while on duty.

It was said that the company’s management had specially invited a master French perfumer to create it using extracts from milk. Female employees of this company were the only people in the world who used it.

The perfume was even patented, but it could never be sold on the market. Its scent was somewhat strange: once sprayed onto the body and mingled with human sweat, it produced a different peculiar odor on every person.

That was why Little Ming had so often found himself in awkward situations because of the scents on Little Red and Aunt Chen.

It was also the reason the karaoke establishment was known as “Milky Cow KTV.” As for the hidden truth behind it, only the company’s senior management and veteran employees knew.

Little Ming’s embarrassment and confusion were not dispelled until he had been working there for some time.

Now, to prevent another awkward situation from occurring, Little Ming immediately hurried out of the dormitory. He breathed in the slightly cool night air to dispel the warmth and agitation in his chest, then quickly made his way back to the front desk.

Only after struggling to calm his nervous and embarrassed feelings did he quietly step into Little Red’s line of sight.

He was a little afraid of Little Red. She was not only beautiful but also exceptionally observant.

“Did you deliver the milk tea?” Little Red asked with a wicked grin. “There’s no need to sneak around like that.”

“What do you mean? What do you mean, there’s no need to sneak around? I only wanted the four of us to…”

Little Ming was still trying to explain when Manager Luo suddenly came in.

“It’s raining outside. We’ll call it a day soon. Little Red, come with me to the main branch in District Nine for a meeting. Little Ming, check the robots and tidy up the lobby a little. That’s all for today!”

Little Ming noticed that Manager Luo’s face was twisting unnaturally.

Was it anger? Anxiety? Or nervousness?
