Chapter Twenty: Madam, This Is a Difficult Matter
The entire internet knew that Yan Chuanzhou looked down on Jiang Chiyu. If the two ended up paired together, would the show even continue?
“Is there a problem?” Madam Yan’s tone was off.
The director looked troubled, his brows so tightly furrowed they could crush a fly. On the verge of tears, he wailed, “Madam, I really can’t manage this. Emperor Yan will never agree. The whole internet is against this pairing; forcing them together is just asking for trouble. If it airs like this, the show’s definitely doomed!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Madam Yan couldn’t help but laugh calmly on the other end of the phone. “Don’t worry, that won’t happen. They’re just a bickering couple. You only need to stir the pot behind the scenes; once it works out, the investment will double.”
The director immediately caught on. His earlier panic vanished, replaced with enthusiasm. “So they’re married! That’s easy. Rest assured, Madam, leave everything to me.”
But at the last moment, Madam Yan added, “They’re not planning to make their marriage public yet. It’s better not to mention it.”
The director understood immediately and promised, “Don’t worry, not a single word will be leaked!”
But if the audience caught on, that would be beyond his control.
After hanging up, the director frowned, muttering to himself, “Jiang Chiyu actually got Emperor Yan? No wonder she’s been so persistent all this time. So it’s a married couple’s play!”
The thought sparked new ideas in his mind.
Initially, Hai had worried there wouldn’t be any chemistry between Jiang Chiyu and Yan Chuanzhou, since their families were at odds and would avoid private interaction.
But now, that clearly wasn’t the case.
This dating show suddenly had many explosive twists.
And even more unexpected surprises awaited.
Wei Feng entered from outside, holding a package.
Lately, Wei Feng’s constant gifts to Jiang Chiyu made Fang Yingying quite envious.
Seeing the package in Wei Feng’s hands, Fang Yingying teased, “Oh wow, Wei, what nice treat did you get this time? I’m thinking of awarding you ‘Top Ten Boyfriend’!”
“This is Chiyu’s delivery,” Wei Feng said with a gentle smile, “It feels pretty heavy. If it were snacks, she’d be happy to share with you.”
The moment the word “snacks” was mentioned, Jiang Chiyu dashed down from the second floor, leaving a blur before the camera.
In her past life, she never tasted so many delicacies. She often marveled, “Though transmigration is bizarre, it’s not bad at all.”
She sprinted to Wei Feng and tried to brake abruptly, but her slippery shoes sent her crashing right into his arms. She winced, her nose instantly flushed red.
“Why the rush? Nobody’s competing with you,” Wei Feng said, holding her protectively and gently massaging her furrowed brow.
Jiang Chiyu was completely unaware of how alluring her expression was, nor did she sense any subtle intimacy between them.
She eagerly took the package from Wei Feng, murmuring, “Let me see what’s inside.”
Having spent years with the military, she had lost her sensitivity to the scent of blood, but her instinctual suspicion remained sharp.
She scanned the shipping label—it was from the nearby courier station by their current resort.
If it was so close, just a few steps away, why bother sending it by mail?
A dark thought flashed through her mind, and her expression immediately clouded.
Fang Yingying noticed Jiang Chiyu had stopped halfway through opening the package and grew curious. She had thought it was a surprise gift.
“Chiyu, is this a little surprise from someone? If you don’t open it, I’ll do it for you.”
Before Jiang Chiyu could stop her, Fang Yingying eagerly tore open the package.
Upon seeing its contents, she screamed in horror, “Ah!”
Xu Chu rushed over, concern etched on his face. “What happened?”
Fang Yingying stumbled backward and caught her foot on the rug, nearly falling. Xu Chu caught her immediately.
His gaze swept over the package on the table, revealing a cat’s corpse, cruelly mutilated, emitting a foul stench.
Xu Chu was horrified too. He covered Fang Yingying’s eyes with one hand and gently patted her with the other, trying to soothe her.
“It’s okay, don’t look and you won’t be scared.”
But the stench made Fang Yingying nauseous. She rushed to the bathroom on the first floor.
Jiang Chiyu stood rooted to the spot, her gaze fixed on the cat’s body without wavering.
Seeing this, Wei Feng thought she was stunned and hesitated to move. He stepped forward, covering the package and speaking with concern, “I’ll deal with this first. Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
“Wait!” Jiang Chiyu suddenly called out, her expression chillingly calm. “I’m coming with you.”
Because the incident happened so suddenly, the production crew dared not speculate. For safety, the director assigned two staff members to follow closely behind.
As soon as they stepped outside, Jiang Chiyu reached to take the package.
Wei Feng dodged, puzzled. “What are you doing? It’s dirty. Let me handle it.”
Jiang Chiyu replied calmly, “I want to see if there’s anything else inside. It can’t be just the dead cat. There must be other things.”
Hearing this, Wei Feng’s expression tensed, a flicker of fear crossing his face. He hesitated, “You just stand aside. I’ll do it.”
The staff handed Wei Feng a pair of gloves.
Wearing them, Wei Feng suppressed his nausea and began rummaging through the package.
Sure enough, beneath the cat’s corpse was a bloodstained envelope.
On it was written clearly: “A little gift for the bitch Jiang.”
“That’s definitely aimed at me,” Jiang Chiyu said, massaging her forehead, feeling a headache come on helplessly.
First it was pigeons, now a dead cat.
This person’s malice was considerable.
Wei Feng opened the envelope and skimmed its contents—vile, filthy words.
Anger surged in him, and he was about to crumple the letter.
“Wait!” Jiang Chiyu stopped him.
She said with a wry smile, “I’ve seen worse toxic comments. One letter is nothing. I want to take photos as evidence. Don’t throw it away carelessly—that’d waste their carefully planned scheme.”
With that, Wei Feng spread the letter fully and showed it to Jiang Chiyu.
After photographing it, Jiang Chiyu read the hateful insults. Her calm face suddenly darkened upon seeing a particular word. She could no longer contain her anger and kicked the package box.
She said fiercely, “You can insult me, but insulting my family is absolutely not allowed! Let’s see how far you dare to go!”
