Chapter Thirty-Seven: Zhao Hu Falls into the Net
As Ma Wu was about to speak, Wu Ting suddenly strode in from the doorway, carefree as ever. Ma Wu was momentarily at a loss for words. The heated discussion among the crowd died down instantly at the sight of a girl who looked just like a high school student entering the room.
Chen Ao, somewhat puzzled, turned to Ma Wu and asked, "Ma Wu, who is this?"
Irritated, Ma Wu stepped forward, pulled Wu Ting behind him, and smiled at Chen Ao. "My sister, just my sister. She’s young and doesn’t know much. Don’t mind her, let’s continue our conversation."
Wu Ting pinched the soft flesh at Ma Wu’s waist from behind, whispering, "Who’s your sister?"
Ma Wu shook his head, leaned close to Chen Ao, and whispered, "Chen Ao, you and this Zhao Hu don’t get along, do you?"
Chen Ao nodded, answering quietly, "That’s right. I don’t know how Zhao Hu managed to become a team leader. He’s got no skills and is always causing trouble. Nobody likes him. But most importantly…"
"What’s most important?" Ma Wu smiled slyly.
Chen Ao hesitated, shook his head helplessly, and said, "It’s nothing."
Ma Wu chuckled and said, "The key point is, you suspect Zhao Hu has sold your company’s information to rival firms, but you have no proof, am I right?"
Chen Ao’s face changed dramatically; he looked at Ma Wu in disbelief. "How did you know?"
Ma Wu made a gesture to keep quiet. "I’ve got some dealings with the people behind Zhao Hu. I know what he’s been up to."
"I see. There was one time Zhao Hu almost left evidence behind. He was caught on camera stealing information, but the voltage was unstable that day. When retrieving the footage, the power kept cutting out, causing the video to be corrupted."
Ma Wu pondered for a moment. "So the damage is software-related? If the technology is good enough, it can be restored, right?"
Chen Ao nodded. "It can be, but it’s difficult. We’ve hired plenty of people and none succeeded. You’re not saying…"
Ma Wu laughed heartily, clapped Chen Ao’s shoulder, and said, "Send me the damaged video file. Then just sit back and enjoy the show."
After saying this, Ma Wu walked to the front of the conference room and started operating the computer. As he worked, he addressed the crowd, "Everyone, stop arguing. I want to ask Team Leader Zhao Hu a question."
Zhao Hu glanced at Ma Wu disdainfully. "What do you want to ask? If you’re here to beg, forget about it. I won’t agree to your ridiculous business deal."
Ma Wu smiled instead of getting angry. "Zhao Hu, would you do me the favor of sending regards to Lei Hu? Both your names have ‘Hu’ in them. You really act the part of a lapdog, don’t you?"
His words were cryptic, leaving everyone confused, but Zhao Hu suddenly trembled, cold sweat pouring down his back. His voice quivered, "Don’t slander me!"
Ma Wu smirked and continued, "Zhao Hu, you’ve done plenty of dirty deeds since joining this company—embezzling funds, stealing information. You think you’ve covered your tracks so well that you’re untouchable, don’t you?"
---
Zhao Hu’s face was pale, but he stubbornly retorted, "Damn it, Ma Wu, can’t you stick to the facts? What nonsense are you spouting? Many suspect me, but nobody has evidence to accuse me of being the culprit."
"I’m telling you, falsely accusing someone is a crime. I’ll call the police!"
Ma Wu laughed. "Go ahead, call the police. That way, you can be taken away directly."
He turned to the bewildered crowd. "Everyone, don’t you have a damaged video here? I’m sure you’re all eager to see what’s on it."
Zhao Hu’s expression changed again, a sense of dread rising within him.
Ma Wu called upon the system:
System, issue command: help me restore the damaged video file.
Ding: To repair this video, the master can do it personally after learning basic computer skills. Once the master reaches level two in computer knowledge…
Damn! Ma Wu was exasperated and told the system, "No time, I’ll learn next time. Just fix it for me now."
Ding: Video repair successful. One hundred points spent.
Ma Wu laughed coldly and loudly, staring at Zhao Hu, then opened the video without hesitation.
On screen, Zhao Hu appeared in the office corridor, furtively looking around before entering the company’s computer room and plugging in a USB drive to copy data.
Seeing this, the employees of Tengyue Media were incensed. Previously, Zhao Hu was only suspected; now, with surveillance footage as evidence, it was clear he’d committed all those crimes.
The conference room erupted with indignation. Many declared that Zhao Hu should be handed over to the police.
Chen Ao was the swiftest. He immediately notified the real chairman of Tengyue Media, then called the police.
Looking at the now limp Zhao Hu slumped in his chair, Chen Ao spoke icily, "Zhao Hu, you’ve harmed the company and bullied your way for far too long. Your reckoning has come. Rest assured, we’ll hire the best lawyers to ensure you spend at least a decade in prison."
Zhao Hu was utterly crushed, collapsing to the floor and begging Ma Wu, "Master Ma, please, don’t! Spare me! Don’t call the police. I was wrong. It was all Lei Hu’s doing, all Lei Hu!"
Ma Wu shook his head and smiled at Zhao Hu. "Sorry, even if I didn’t want to report you, someone else already has. Nothing I can do."
Soon, the police arrived, took the video evidence, and escorted the ashen-faced Zhao Hu out of the conference room.
Seeing Ma Wu decisively remove the obstacle Zhao Hu, the crowd was both impressed and somewhat apprehensive. After a moment’s silence, Chen Ao took the lead, "Mr. Ma Wu, you’ve done our company a great service. It was you who restored the video and brought Zhao Hu to justice. We’ll do everything we can to support you!"
Ma Wu smiled, nodding in satisfaction. "That’s for the best."
---
Ding! You’ve sent the cancer Zhao Hu to the police, earning the admiration of Tengyue Media’s staff. Pretentiousness points +300.
Ding! You exposed Zhao Hu’s true identity, slapping him in the face. Face-slapping points +300.
Ding! You’ve gained the friendship of Tengyue Media’s executive team leader Chen Ao.
Ma Wu glanced at Chen Ao; gaining his friendship even triggered a special system notification. Clearly, Chen Ao was no ordinary figure.
With Zhao Hu removed, both sides quickly agreed on the terms of cooperation. Ma Wu handed over the audio evidence of Goldfish TV’s threats and insults against Lin Erke to Chen Ao, paid a deposit of 2.5 million, and prepared to leave Tengyue Media.
Wu Ting had shadowed Ma Wu throughout, and seeing him ready to depart, she followed.
Ma Wu went to the office building, got into his newly purchased sedan, and was about to drive off, only for Wu Ting to squeeze into the passenger seat, settling in confidently and looking at him with a hint of pride.
Ma Wu, headache mounting, said helplessly, "Miss Wu, why are you tagging along again?"
Wu Ting played with her delicate fingers and replied calmly, "I’m going home. I forgot to call my driver, so you’ll take me."
Ma Wu thought about how Wu Ting had once given him a lift, so he really had no reason to refuse. He could only drive her home.
Wu Ting came from the aristocratic Wu family, whose mansion was located in the eastern suburbs—not far from the Jing Mountain Villa.
On the way, Wu Ting’s curiosity bubbled over:
"Hey, Ma Wu, how did you know Zhao Hu was backed by Lei Hu?"
"Wow, Ma Wu, you’re amazing! You managed to recover that damaged video. Next time my computer breaks, you’ll fix it for me!"
"Ma Wu, Ma Wu…"
Wu Ting’s endless questions nearly drove Ma Wu mad. But he was no ordinary person; whether Wu Ting pouted, acted cute, or threw a tantrum, Ma Wu simply replied with two words: "It’s a secret."
As if he would ever tell Wu Ting about his system.
