Chapter Three: The Stealth Mission
She was very wealthy, yet she insisted on living in this room.
Her room was the best one in the apartment.
“In short, don’t argue with me. Move out quickly. I want to live here,” said Mrs. Lin, the landlord, unreasonably, forcing Li Mida to leave.
The apartment had already been sold; it was no longer hers, so she had to find a new place as soon as possible, or she would have nowhere to go.
She had thought the place would be sold in two or three months, but it happened so quickly, and now she couldn’t find anywhere to stay.
“We have a contract. Things should be done according to the contract,” Li Mida fumed.
She had paid much more rent just to live in this room.
“Didn’t you understand me? I told you to move out!” Mrs. Lin shoved her hands in her pockets, growing more belligerent.
Then she tossed part of the rent at Li Mida.
Li Mida refused to take it, her face full of reluctance, and the money scattered across the floor.
At that moment, Ma Wu walked over, picked up the rent, and slipped it into his pocket.
“All right, the rent is refunded. I’ll take care of it,” Ma Wu said to Li Mida.
This internet celebrity had captivating eyes, long lashes, and a cold, emotionless expression that made her seem aloof.
“What’s it got to do with you?” Li Mida shot Ma Wu a sidelong glance.
Ma Wu ignored her and turned to Mrs. Lin, saying, “I never agreed to rent this room to you. Who told you to drive out my tenant?”
“I…” Mrs. Lin’s face turned green.
Li Mida was stunned. This guy who lived in the storage room was claiming the apartment was his?
Impossible.
“Hey, handsome, didn’t you just buy this place from me? I don’t have anywhere else to go right now, and I have so much stuff to move. I can’t manage it. I’ll be going abroad in two or three months. This is the best room, so I want to stay,” Mrs. Lin pleaded, embarrassment written all over her face.
What? Ma Wu bought the apartment? How could that be? He could barely pay rent on time—how could he suddenly afford such an expensive place?
Li Mida was shocked.
“You think you can live here just because you want to? Are you the landlord?” Ma Wu shot her a look, then turned to Li Mida. “Miss, you can stay in this room for the rest of your life if you want.”
Those words filled Li Mida’s heart with warmth. A beautiful smile appeared on her face, and her opinion of Ma Wu improved dramatically.
“But I have nowhere to go, please, handsome, give me a place to stay,” Mrs. Lin begged.
“What about your old room? Go live there. Why squeeze in here?” Ma Wu was annoyed.
That room was big enough for ten people, yet here she was, trying to evict his goddess, Li Mida.
Ma Wu lived in the storage room only so he could press his ear to the wall at night and secretly listen to Li Mida in her moments of loneliness.
What was the point of staying in the storage room if she left?
“My room is full of my stuff. There’s no space left,” Mrs. Lin admitted, embarrassed.
Seriously? You’ve sold the apartment but haven’t moved your things out? Do you still think it’s yours?
Ma Wu could only shake his head.
“There’s no extra room for you here, and you can’t force the tenant out. If you want to stay, you can have the storage room,” Ma Wu said, pointing to his own cramped quarters.
In truth, Mrs. Lin could easily stay at a hotel; the only reason she didn’t was that her room was crammed with important goods.
“If I move in there, where will you stay?” Mrs. Lin felt awkward about taking over his space.
“I don’t know. I’ll sleep on the street,” Ma Wu replied nonchalantly—he could always stay at a hotel.
“Why don’t you stay in my room? I have an extra bedroom…” At that critical moment, the goddess Li Mida spoke up.
“In that case, I’ll take you up on your offer,” Ma Wu said, running his hand through his hair.
He quickly moved a few belongings into Li Mida’s apartment.
He let Mrs. Lin have the storage room. Watching the once overbearing landlord squeeze into that cramped space was immensely satisfying.
“So this Li Mida is a top-tier beauty? If I can get her, I’ll complete my mission.”
Ma Wu lay on the bed in the small bedroom, which was separated from Li Mida’s room by a door. It was called a bedroom, but was really more like a small single room inside her apartment.
“Sigh, I’d better follow the system’s instructions.”
Ma Wu didn’t linger at home. After breakfast, he went to his part-time job to resign—after all, now that he had the system, why bother working?
Then he went out to wander the city.
At three in the afternoon, Ma Wu received a private message on Goldfish TV from the user Ma Juteng.
“You little punk, you competed with me on gift-sending and got me into an accident on the highway. I won’t let you off.”
“Listen, Lin Erke is the woman I’ve got my eye on. If you dare touch her, I swear I’ll destroy you.”
“I’m heading to Lian’an City first to handle Li Mida—then I’ll deal with you.”
After reading the three messages, Ma Wu was incensed.
“So, you lost all your money trying to out-gift me, got so angry you crashed your car? It’s a pity you didn’t die, you idiot.”
“Let me tell you, Lin Erke is mine. And that Li Mida you mentioned? I’ll play with her too—seven days and seven nights.”
Ma Wu sent two replies, fuming inside. How dare Ma Juteng set his sights on Li Mida—unforgivable.
Li Mida was the city’s internet celebrity—a stunning beauty and a famous auto show model. It was no surprise Ma Juteng would go after her.
“No, I have to locate Ma Juteng right away.”
Ma Wu pulled out his phone and logged into the Super Tycoon Gift System.
He entered the shop and found an item called the Tracking Eye.
The Tracking Eye cost a hundred achievement points.
Purchase?
Yes.
Purchase successful. An eye appeared on the phone screen.
“Found you, you bastard Ma Juteng.” Ma Wu grabbed it and pressed the button on the back. The eye began to glow and took off, searching automatically.
Following it, Ma Wu arrived at the garden near the apartment, where it landed on a wrecked Mercedes and vanished.
The Mercedes had apparently just arrived. As its horn fell silent, a man got out.
He had a bandage wrapped around his head.
Ma Juteng had messaged on Goldfish TV, saying he’d crashed on the highway to Lian’an City.
And here was a man with a bandaged head—it had to be Ma Juteng.
“Scum like you will never succeed,” Ma Wu thought, then opened his Super Tycoon Gift System inventory, pulled out an invisibility cloak, and put it on, rendering himself invisible.
“Li Mida, you can’t escape my grasp. Competing with Ma Wu on gift-sending has made me bankrupt, I don’t have a cent left. Didn’t you want to make it big in showbiz and meet top directors? I’ll have my fun with you a few times, then introduce you to some rich second-generation heirs and take a cut,” Ma Juteng muttered, leaning on the wrecked Mercedes, stroking his chin and hatching schemes.
Ma Juteng was tall and brawny, a bit overweight, not ugly but not attractive either, and specialized in shady dealings.
So, his profession was pimping? And here I thought he was actually rich.
Invisible, Ma Wu felt a surge of disdain.
“Damn it, you want to go after every woman I have my eyes on. Ma Wu, if I find you, I’ll kill you,” Ma Juteng cursed at his phone, waiting for Li Mida, but didn’t reply to Ma Wu’s messages.
Ma Wu immediately sent him a private message on Goldfish TV.
“So you’re a pimp? Disgusting. Spent all your money, haven’t you? Don’t deny it—I’ve checked. You really are an idiot, throwing away cash you don’t have. Are you insane? You’re nothing but a pile of crap.”
Just as Ma Juteng was about to log off, Ma Wu’s message popped up.
After reading it, he went red with rage.
“Damn you!” Ma Juteng gritted his teeth at the screen, finally losing his temper and roaring, “Ma Wu, I’m going to kill you!”
Invisible, Ma Wu watched this and felt incredibly satisfied.
“Mr. Ma!” Just then, a voice called out from afar—it was Li Mida.
Looking up, he saw her striding over in a professional outfit—a fitted skirt, black stockings, high heels. Tall and slender, every step she took sent electricity through the veins.
Ma Juteng’s expression turned lecherous, eyes glued to her, his anger instantly drowned by her beauty.
“Miss Li, hello.” Ma Juteng quickly composed himself and greeted her with an air of respect, offering his hand for a handshake.
