Liu Mang immediately sensed that things were going awry and tried to turn and flee. If even the Kingpin couldn’t deal with Ma Wu, how could he alone stand a chance?

Suddenly, the wail of sirens rang out from beyond the door, turning Liu Mang’s face ashen. Why were the police here? Could it be…?

Shocked, Liu Mang looked up at Ma Wu.
“Why did you call the police?!”

“You killed someone! Don’t you realize that?” Ma Wu’s gaze was calm, his composure unshaken. He shrugged indifferently. “It was self-defense.”

He pointed at the wound on his back and smiled. “Isn’t this proof enough?”

Damn, this guy did it on purpose!

No, he had to get out of here!

“Stop! Police!” A swarm of officers rushed in, guns drawn, their muzzles trained on everyone inside the factory.

Liu Mang and the other petty thugs had never faced such a scene before; their legs gave out beneath them and they collapsed to the floor in terror.

“Officer, it wasn’t on purpose!” Liu Mang was sobbing, tears streaming down his face. “I meant no harm, I—”

“It was all these bastards! They forced me into it!”
In desperation, Liu Mang betrayed his own boss and the others, painting himself as the victim.

“Bullshit! You’re the one who brought us here, weren’t you?” The boss snapped, unable to contain himself, and the two began accusing each other.

The police ignored the infighting, their eyes fixed on Ma Wu. There had been a death here—was he the culprit?

Suddenly, Ma Wu’s face turned pale and his body began to sway, as if he might topple over at any moment.
With a thud, he collapsed in a faint.

Of course, with the enhancements from the system, Ma Wu would never faint so easily. It was all an act. He hadn’t decided how to handle the police yet and didn’t want to act rashly.

“Ma Wu, Ma Wu!” Li Mida called out anxiously. “Don’t scare me, you’re going to be okay, right?”

“Quick, get an ambulance!” The police sprang into action, sending someone to rescue Ma Wu.

When Ma Wu awoke again, he was already in a hospital, the glaring white surroundings almost blinding.

“Li Mida, are you here?” he called, still groggy, seeking the one person who could explain everything.

“Don’t bother calling—your little girlfriend isn’t here.”

The gentle voice drew Ma Wu’s attention. It was a doctor from the hospital, a woman with an innocent face and a soft, soothing manner, but eyes that sparkled with mischief.

The striking contrast in her demeanor didn’t seem odd to Ma Wu—instead, it was uniquely alluring.

This woman, too, was a beauty.

Sensing his heated gaze, she shot Ma Wu a playful, reproachful look and clicked her tongue. “Men are all the same—big louts!”

“Hey, what are you staring at?”

Ma Wu, realizing his slip, quickly averted his gaze. Then, with a mischievous grin, he said, “It’s just that you’re too charming, Miss. I can’t help myself.”

She snorted and introduced herself. “I’m your primary doctor. You can call me Ye Qing.”

“Hello, Dr. Ye Qing,” Ma Wu asked, “You said Li Mida isn’t here—where did she go?”

“She’s at the police station giving her statement.” Ye Qing set her tray aside. “I’m here to change your dressing.”

“Take off your shirt.”

Ma Wu’s eyes gleamed and a sly smile played at his lips.

“Ow, my back hurts so much…” he moaned dramatically.

Ye Qing, alarmed, hurried over to check on him. “What’s wrong? Where does it hurt?”

“I think my wound’s torn open,” Ma Wu replied, looking up at her with pitiful eyes. “I really can’t move to take off my clothes or turn over. Could you help me?”

Ye Qing eyed him suspiciously, but seeing his apparently genuine distress, she nodded.

She carefully undid his buttons, but as she took in his toned, muscular physique, her cheeks flushed crimson.

Was this even possible?

Ma Wu flashed a confident grin—he’d discovered by accident that after purchasing kickboxing skills, his body had transformed as well.

“Doctor, do you think it looks good?” he asked, lowering his voice to a deep, magnetic timbre, jolting Ye Qing back to her senses.

He’s a patient, she scolded herself. What am I thinking?

Ye Qing forced herself to focus, but just then, a strong hand reached out, pulling her into Ma Wu’s embrace.

Feeling his powerful heartbeat, Ye Qing was mortified.

He really is solid…

“Wait, you’re not faking, are you?” Suddenly suspicious, Ye Qing sprang up. “You look lively enough—where exactly does it hurt?”

Ma Wu grinned broadly. “It’s my back that hurts, not my hands. Go on, apply the medicine!”

This guy! He was doing it on purpose!

Even Ye Qing, normally mild-tempered, was flustered by Ma Wu’s antics.

“Fine, I’ll help you!” she muttered through gritted teeth.

She tried to help him turn over, but he was as heavy as a mountain—she couldn’t budge him at all.

But when he was asleep, changing his dressing had been easy.

“How is this possible? Why can’t I move you?” Ye Qing, hands on her hips, glared at him.

“I didn’t do anything,” Ma Wu protested innocently, batting his eyes. “You saw, I didn’t move a muscle. Is it my fault you’re not strong enough?”

Ye Qing, used to the front lines of the hospital, was no weakling. In truth, Ma Wu was subtly tensing his muscles to make himself heavier.

“You could at least help me!” Ye Qing shot him an exasperated look. Why was this man so obtuse? Would it kill him to cooperate?

Hook, line, and sinker!

A sly smile curled at Ma Wu’s lips, though it vanished in seconds.

“If I move, do I get a reward?” he teased.

“A grown man, asking for a reward?”

“It’s called keeping a childlike heart,” Ma Wu replied, leaving Ye Qing with no retort.

Now Ye Qing understood—she’d walked straight into his trap.

“What kind of reward do you want?” she asked helplessly, her gaze fixed on him as if she might devour him whole.

“Dr. Ye Qing, you’re so beautiful,” Ma Wu said with a grin. “As a man, is it too much to ask for your WeChat?”

So that was his goal! Ye Qing nodded thoughtfully.

Honestly, even if Ma Wu hadn’t asked, she wouldn’t have let him off so easily. After all, not many dared tease her so shamelessly.

“Of course not,” Ye Qing replied suddenly, flashing a dazzling smile.

Ma Wu shivered involuntarily, feeling as if he’d attracted the attention of a predator. A beauty, no doubt.

With Ye Qing’s agreement, he cheerfully turned over, exposing his wounded back.

“Aaah—!”

Soon enough, Ma Wu’s pitiful wails filled the room.

Ye Qing’s face bore a triumphant grin—serves you right for teasing me!

“Heh.” For some reason, Ma Wu started laughing again, making Ye Qing pause, confused.

“What now?”

“You only bruised my back, not my brain,” Ma Wu replied, turning to look at her with a serious expression. “Have you heard a certain saying?”

“Hm?”

“Beating means affection, scolding means love. Isn’t this your way of showing you care? How could I refuse?”

How could this man be so shameless!

He already had a girlfriend!

Ye Qing, usually so demure, fell silent, tending to his wounds with a chilly detachment.

The room was thick with awkwardness. Ma Wu, for once, dared not push his luck, and lay quietly.

“Excuse me, which one of you is Ma Wu?”

A gruff male voice broke the silence. Ma Wu looked up instinctively.

Though the newcomer wore plain clothes, his taut frame and military bearing made his identity plain.

A police officer.

“What do you want?” Ma Wu asked.

“Just need to take your statement.” The man tried to smile, but the cold gleam in his eyes was anything but reassuring.
