The next day, Chen Longshi received his transfer order.

He was assigned to the newly established Special Dragon Squad under the Investigation Department. It was fitting, as he had completed his internship with the Azure Dragon Squad, and his name itself bore the character “Dragon.” Thus, the new unit was aptly named the “Special Dragon Squad.”

A newly promoted Silver-ranked rookie, placed in an important post and permitted to form a new special action team outside the Four Divine Beasts squads? This order left many people bewildered.

The Heavenly Sword Bureau had branches all over the country, and even the local divisions were not easy to enter. Chen Longshi had only been here less than a month and had already stood out among the newcomers. If he had no backing, it was clear that his superiors held him in high regard and intended to nurture him.

Though many felt indignant, an order was an order—thus, Chen Longshi was so easily entrusted with this responsibility.

Naturally, Chen Longshi had no objection to his promotion. In such state institutions, many things were not based solely on ability; birth, character, and connections often outweighed mere seniority.

First in his class at Xuanyuan Military Academy, a favored son of heaven, of pure lineage, and a royal direct descendant—if not him, who else would they cultivate?

Chen Longshi’s first priority was to recruit personnel. Yuan Tianfeng ordered all squads to cooperate—money, space, manpower, all available upon request. For a time, members of other squads turned pale at the news—even senior members of the Azure Dragon Squad avoided Chen Longshi, fearing he would pick them.

The first name Chen Longshi submitted was Wang Ben. The approval from above came swiftly: “Permitted!”

As a fellow favored son of heaven, Wang Ben suddenly found himself Chen Longshi’s subordinate and was immediately disgruntled. “Of all people, why recruit me? Are we even that close?”

Chen Longshi laughed. “Well, you lost to me, didn’t you!”

Wang Ben rolled his eyes and retorted, “That was only temporary. I’ll beat you sooner or later. You can play with your Special Dragon Squad on your own; don’t expect me to work for you!”

Chen Longshi laughed heartily, patting his shoulder. “Just joking, don’t take it so seriously. Here in the Heavenly Sword Bureau, we’re all newcomers with shallow roots and few connections. I could pick others, sure, but they wouldn’t be convinced. I have no interest in slowly training them up. I’d rather choose someone I get along with than bring in someone who’ll resent me.”

“Of course, General Wang, your future is bright. I won’t hold you back. Just help a brother out for a while—help set up this squad, and you can gain some experience in team-building for your future leadership.”

This mollified Wang Ben, though he still hesitated.

Sensing his wavering, Chen Longshi coaxed him further, promising various benefits, until at last Wang Ben relented, “Really, just for a while?”

Chen Longshi pounded his chest. “Absolutely. Once you’re promoted to Silver, I couldn’t hold you back even if I wanted to.”

“That’s true,” Wang Ben replied, feigning reluctance. “Silver isn’t far off. I’ll get there soon enough.”

Thus, Wang Ben officially became the squad’s deputy leader. After requisitioning two elite support staff from Logistics—Lin Yasheng and Liu Shishi—the basic structure of the Dragon Squad was complete.

That very day, the four members of the Dragon Squad made their first collective move, driving four Warrior military vehicles straight to Swallowtail Harbor in Haidu City.

Located on the southern coast of Haidu, Swallowtail Harbor was surrounded by bustling tourist facilities and a deep-water port teeming with activity, making property prices sky-high—forty to fifty thousand per square meter, far beyond the reach of ordinary people.

The convoy sped through the night, heading for a solitary villa built against the hillside at the port’s edge. Passing through the only road beneath a cascading waterfall, they arrived at an underground structure that looked like a warehouse—this would be the squad’s temporary base.

With a clatter of iron doors, the base was opened. Inside was pitch darkness until Wang Ben found the switch; overhead lights blazed on in rows, revealing a vast space roughly the size of a football field, empty save for a few unopened cargo crates scattered around.

“So this is our base? It’s so bare,” Lin Yasheng muttered.

Wang Ben didn’t mind the conditions. “All I need is proper training equipment.” He strode over and forcibly opened a crate, revealing top-notch gear inside.

“Wow, so much stuff, all accounted for.” He was very satisfied.

Liu Shishi tossed down her backpack and flexed her hands. “With a base this big, we’re going to be busy.”

Chen Longshi smiled. “No need to trouble yourselves.” He dropped his bag, snapped his fingers, and the crates began to unpack themselves, as if guided by invisible hands. Dozens of tons of gravity rooms, alloy stakes, weapon racks, Warrior armored vehicles, smart rooms, computer towers—all these facilities floated into the air and settled perfectly into place.

Everything was neatly arranged, even the refrigerator, TV, and sofas were set up precisely, leaving everyone awestruck.

Wang Ben snapped out of it. “You’ve been hiding this trick from us? Is this telekinesis? Damn, that’s just unfair.” He recalled his last defeat, realizing Chen Longshi hadn’t even used his trump card, and grew more vexed.

Lin Yasheng and Liu Shishi’s eyes sparkled—their new captain was truly impressive.

As support staff, they didn’t have too many ambitions, but who wouldn’t want a strong leader? When they’d heard Chen Longshi was just a newly promoted Silver, they’d felt somewhat resigned. Now, seeing just a glimpse of his abilities, their spirits lifted—they looked forward to the work ahead.

“Captain, should the sofa face this way? South-facing, like my bed at home,” Lin Yasheng said, not at all shy about giving directions.

Chen Longshi had no intention of dampening their enthusiasm. “No problem.”

Liu Shishi chimed in, “It’s too spacious here—let’s add a screen in the lounge area for privacy when resting.” Chen Longshi gestured to the left wall, “Wang Ben, check over there. I heard the sound of waves—it might be open at the back.”

Wang Ben, suspicious, walked over and found a hidden mechanism. Opening it, he discovered a concealed harbor tunnel leading straight to the sea. A small military submarine and several armed speedboats were quietly moored inside.

The group cheered together, “Cool—now this is a real base!”

Chen Longshi extended his psychic senses and reminded them, “There’s an elevator at the back that leads to the villa above. There’s something inside the right wall as well—go take a look.”

At his words, the group began a treasure hunt. Soon, they found military star network radar equipment, rows of the latest Star Power Armor hidden behind the wall, and more high-tech facilities.

This was no barebones warehouse—it was more like Batman’s high-tech lair. As their future headquarters, it offered much more freedom than the Heavenly Sword Bureau’s main base. Spirits soared as the four of them set to work; in no time, the sprawling base was fully organized.

With a hum, the smart AI came online, displaying a full surveillance map of Haidu’s southern district on its massive particle screen.

Lin Yasheng and Liu Shishi sat in front of the AI, swiftly operating the controls as images flickered by—Dragon Squad was now officially on duty.

As it turned out, this temporary base also bore responsibility for defending all of southern Haidu’s airspace and monitoring hundreds of kilometers of offshore waters. In particular, the system’s top alert priority was any possible dimensional rift event.

Chen Longshi wasn’t especially interested in this. “Shishi, log in to the Investigation Department’s intranet with my credentials—see what special cases our team needs to handle.”

“Yes, Captain.” Liu Shishi quickly adapted to her role.

No sooner had she logged in than a notification sounded. “Captain, the Minister is calling.”

Chen Longshi straightened his uniform and stood at attention before the camera. “Answer.”

A moment later, Yuan Tianfeng’s figure appeared on the huge display.

“Good afternoon, Minister!” Chen Longshi saluted.

After returning the salute, Yuan Tianfeng surveyed the now-organized temporary base and nodded with satisfaction, then grew serious. “Chen Longshi, this is an emergency notification. There’s been a mysterious monster attack in Heluo Town. The Dragon Squad is ordered to investigate the cause and eliminate any threat. Though you’ve only just arrived at the base, time is of the essence—get ready and set out immediately!”

“Yes, we’ll move out at once.”

Yuan Tianfeng added, “The cause of this mission is unknown, and it cannot be classified by level. If you need support, apply at any time. Be careful.”

“Thank you, Minister.”

This was the Dragon Squad’s first official mission. Receiving the order, Chen Longshi didn’t dare delay. He had Liu Shishi shift surveillance focus to the Fengxia Mountain area in the south, and notified Wang Ben to prepare for departure.

Liu Shishi quickly pulled up the route map. “Heluo Town is sixty kilometers from Haidu—a famous tourist town. The roads are narrow and there’s plenty of water. We should bring underwater combat gear.”

“Good suggestion. Prepare yourselves.”

Chen and Liu helped everyone get their gear in order. No one expected the mission to come so swiftly, but such was the Heavenly Sword Bureau’s style. Lin Yasheng, the youngest and most cheerful, was less steady than Liu Shishi and voiced some concern: “Captain, our team only has you two combat operatives—not even the minimum for a field mission. Shouldn’t we go along as well?”

Chen Longshi smiled. “No need. You two handle logistics and support. Just do your jobs and hold the fort.”

Liu Shishi added, “Captain, Vice Captain, be careful out there. Stay in touch for updates at all times.”

Wang Ben had already shouldered his gear, tossed it in the back seat of a Warrior, and slung his breaker sword over his shoulder before settling in behind the wheel. As the engine roared to life, the vehicle sped down the tunnel, disappearing swiftly into the night.
