It was said that many celebrities, in order to improve their fortune and seize more resources, would deliberately travel to the Kingdom of Siam in Southeast Asia and specially invite a great sorcerer to fashion a child spirit for them.

Commonly known as raising a little ghost.

Tong Kunkun was no exception.

The bronze doll in his hands was not, in fact, made directly from the corpse of an infant.

At the time, the sorcerer had found the body of a young boy and propped it upright. Then, by burning the corpse’s chin with candles until the flesh split open and corpse oil seeped out, he poured that oil over the bronze doll and placed it in a wooden coffin for forty-nine days, chanting spells day after day, until at last the little ghost was forged.

This little ghost was drenched in resentment, far from ordinary. When Tong Kunkun first took possession of it, it nearly devoured him. Fortunately, he endured. He fed it fresh blood every day, and now the little ghost obeyed his every command. Not only could it increase his luck, but he often sent it out to torment the other celebrities who competed with him.

One could say that Tong Kunkun owed his present status and standing entirely to this little ghost.

And just now, after being obedient for so long, the little ghost had nearly broken free of Tong Kunkun’s control, which had frightened him badly.

Although Ren Yuheng did not believe in such talk of ghosts and spirits, he still could not help asking, "If that talisman was real, can your little ghost still go after Yan Yu?"

Tong Kunkun tried his best to communicate with the bronze doll in his hands. After a long while, he finally let out a breath of relief. "It says Yan Yu no longer has the talisman on him, so it can make a move."

"If that’s the case, what are you waiting for?" Ren Yuheng said. "Teach that brat a lesson now."

Tong Kunkun nodded and was just about to give the order when a group of uninvited guests suddenly barged into the banquet hall.

"Hahaha! Old Su, it’s your eightieth birthday and you didn’t even invite me, Zhao Kunpeng. Aren’t you being a bit too disrespectful to an old friend like me?"

At the head of the group was an elderly man who looked rather aged, yet was as hale and hearty as Su Wu.

When this group appeared, Su Wu could not help frowning. "Zhao Kunpeng, I am not your friend. This place does not welcome you."

"Who are these people?" Yan Yu asked curiously.

Su Han’s expression darkened. "The Zhao family. That old man is Zhao Kunpeng, my grandfather’s old rival. Our Su family controls more than half the ports in Lucheng, and the rest are under Zhao Kunpeng’s control. My grandfather is the chairman of the chamber of commerce in Jianzhou Province, and Zhao Kunpeng is the vice chairman. The Zhao family and ours have always clashed in business, and neither side has ever liked the other... Zhao Kunpeng showing up all of a sudden means he can’t be up to any good."

Yan Yu looked at Zhao Kunpeng. Sniffing, he said, "Su Han, do you smell something strange about him? A kind of sinister energy?"

At his words, Su Han looked more closely, and her expression changed at once. "It’s true... That sinister energy isn’t coming from him, but he must have recently been in contact with some filthy thing!"

Yan Yu’s face darkened. "Su Han, you’re right. Zhao Kunpeng really hasn’t come with good intentions. I’m afraid he’s here today to strike at your grandfather."

"What do we do?"

"I’m here."

Those simple three words seemed to steady Su Han’s heart. She looked at Yan Yu’s profile, her thoughts unreadable.

Zhao Kunpeng, as though at home, led his people to sit down and smiled at Su Wu. "Today is your eightieth birthday, and I couldn’t just come empty-handed. Bring it in!"

A few of Zhao Kunpeng’s men went out and soon pushed in a massive object. It was covered in red cloth, and no one could tell what lay beneath.

At Zhao Kunpeng’s command, the cloth was yanked away, revealing that the massive object was actually a bronze bell.

Zhao Kunpeng had brought Su Wu a bell.

To give a bell was to wish someone a funeral. It was a blatant insult to Su Wu. Seeing this, Su Wu slapped the table in fury. "Zhao Kunpeng, don’t push your luck! Since we both live in Lucheng, leave on your own right now, or don’t blame me for being rude!"

"Ah, Old Su, when you get old you should learn to accept your fate and enjoy your retirement. Maybe your children will even grant you a decent end," Zhao Kunpeng said with a smile. "On that point, your second son, Su Hanjue, is very enlightened. During this period, he and we have reached quite a few common understandings..."

Su Wu’s eyes flew wide as he stared at Su Hanjue beside him.

Su Hanjue kept his head down and said, "Dad, times have changed. You should have let go long ago. I’ll take over from you properly."

Su Wu’s gaze left Su Hanjue and swept across the former subordinates who were present. But every one of them had their heads bowed, with no intention of standing up for him at all.

Only now did he realize that these shameless ingrates had already been bought off by Su Hanjue and Zhao Kunpeng.

"Fine... Very good. You’re bullying an old man, is that it?" Su Wu was thunderously angry. "Let me tell you, this old man’s body is in excellent shape. As long as I’m still breathing, all your schemes and ideas are just empty talk. I will never agree to any of it!"

A strange smile appeared on Su Hanjue’s face as he said lightly, "Dad, what are you talking about? You were diagnosed with several terminal illnesses months ago..."

"Spit it out!"

"Dad, if there’s anything, let’s sit down and talk it through properly. Don’t get too worked up. If you suffer a heart attack, that would be terrible."

As he spoke, Su Hanjue secretly shot Zhao Kunpeng a glance. Zhao Kunpeng walked straight to the bronze bell and struck it hard.

Boom.

At the dull, muffled sound, every guest felt a heaviness in their chests, along with an indescribable discomfort rising within their bodies.

Yan Yu and Su Han’s expressions instantly turned grim.

"There’s something wrong with that bronze bell! Zhao Kunpeng and your second uncle are ringing it here because they want to take your grandfather’s life!" Yan Yu said sternly.

"I’ll throw them out right now!" Su Han was about to rise, but Yan Yu suddenly held her back and said with a smile, "Relax. Your grandfather is wearing my talisman."

At those words, Su Han hurriedly looked toward Su Wu.

Su Wu was standing straight, his face full of confusion as he looked around at the others.

He had clearly seen the pain that had flashed across everyone’s faces when the bell sounded.

So why did he feel nothing at all?

Su Hanjue was stunned too, staring at Su Wu in disbelief.

Zhao Kunpeng did not believe it and struck the bell several more times, but Su Wu still showed no reaction whatsoever. Instead, Zhao Kunpeng looked a little foolish.

"Impossible. Master Liu clearly said that as long as I rang this Soul-Summoning Bell, Old Su would surely go into cardiac arrest and die. How... how can this old man be completely unaffected?!"

Su Wu suddenly thought of something and reached into his pocket, pinching the talisman Yan Yu had just given him.

Then he looked at Su Hanjue, who was plainly at a loss, and slapped him across the face.

Smack!

"You unfilial son! Pack your things right now and get out of the Su family!" Su Wu roared.
