Chapter 58: Yan Xiaoyu, the Internet-Addicted Youth
Hearing Yan Yu’s words, Su Han was so angry she burst out laughing. “These coins aren’t enough to buy the Lady Cop! Do you even know how to play?”
“Ahem, to be honest, I don’t. But I’m learning.” Yan Yu replied without looking up.
“Is now really the time to play games? I finally cooked a meal—are you going to eat or not?” Su Han stood with her hands on her hips, looking not unlike a nagging wife.
Yan Yu said impatiently, “Stop nagging. Let me finish this round!”
“Yan Yu!” Su Han shouted angrily. “I’ve never cooked for a man before, don’t get carried away! Get up, now!”
“I said I’m not eating, and I mean it. Either come feed me, or stop bothering me!” Yan Yu raised his voice several notches.
Su Han stomped her foot in frustration. She had never seen Yan Yu so unreasonable; she actually felt a little aggrieved. If it weren’t for falling out with her family, she wouldn’t have ended up in this situation.
Zhao Qingqing saw things escalating and hurried in to mediate. “Why are you two arguing? Honey, stop playing that game!”
Yan Yu chuckled, turned to the two women, and asked, “Did I act convincingly just now?”
“Act?” Zhao Qingqing was puzzled.
Yan Yu closed the game and grinned. “Did I look like an internet-addicted teenager?”
“I don’t know about that, but you definitely looked like you deserved a beating,” Su Han said through clenched teeth.
“Ahem. Do you think if I’m sent to an internet rehab center, they’ll notice anything?” Yan Yu asked.
The two women were stunned for a moment before realizing his intention. “You want to sneak into the internet rehab center?”
“Let’s talk while we eat.”
They returned to the dining table. Yan Yu picked up the chicken soup and drank half a bowl, giving Su Han a thumbs-up. “No wonder you’re called Teacher Su. If I could drink your chicken soup every day, I’d be truly blessed.”
“In your dreams. I don’t cook often,” Su Han scoffed, though her eyes betrayed a hint of joy. Having her cooking recognized by others was, after all, a reason to be happy.
Come to think of it, Yan Yu was the first man to taste her cooking.
“Woof woof!” Da Hei barked anxiously from the side. Yan Yu quickly gnawed a chicken drumstick, then tossed the bone to Da Hei, who happily began chewing it.
Zhao Qingqing inhaled the aroma of the chicken soup, prompting Su Han to say, “Food that Qingqing has touched retains some yin energy. I have Yin-Yang Eyes, so when I eat it, my Yin-Yang Eyes absorb the yin energy and I’m fine. But you—are you sure it won’t affect you?”
Yan Yu replied carelessly, “It’s just a bit of yin energy. I actually need it. If I were a normal person, living with Qingqing for so long, I’d have fallen ill ages ago.”
That was also why Yan Yu hadn’t let Master Cao live here. He was already old and frail. If he spent every day with Zhao Qingqing, he’d end up in a coffin within a few years.
“You can absorb yin energy?” Su Han was surprised. “But you don’t have Yin-Yang Eyes.”
“I have something else, something special,” Yan Yu said with a devilish smile.
Su Han instinctively rolled her eyes at him.
“Let’s get down to business.” Yan Yu wiped his greasy lips and continued, “I’ll head home today, bring all my stuff over, and tomorrow you can take me to the internet rehab center.”
“But what about school?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll call Xiao Deng later.” Yan Yu smiled.
Su Han was speechless. Principal Deng Gaofeng, who ruled the school with an iron fist, was reduced to ‘Xiao Deng’ in Yan Yu’s mouth, someone he could order around at will.
Zhao Qingqing worriedly said, “Honey, why don’t you take me in with you? What if you run into trouble at the rehab center?”
“You can’t be away from HelloKitty for too long, so you can’t come with me. But don’t worry, I’ll have other companions this time.”
“Who?”
Yan Yu grinned mischievously. “Teacher Su, didn’t you notice last time that Fatty and Hao Zhuang seem a bit addicted to the internet?”
“…You’re not planning to take them, are you?” Su Han suddenly had a bad feeling.
“They may be a bit slow, but they’re loyal and trustworthy,” Yan Yu said. “I’ll get Xiao Deng to inform their parents, tell them the school is running a stress-relief camp, and they’ll stay on campus for a few days.”
Poor Fatty and Hao Zhuang were probably at home watching movies right now, unaware they’d already been arranged by Yan Yu.
After settling the plan, Yan Yu quickly finished his chicken soup, his complexion noticeably brighter.
“I’ll head out now. You two wait for me at home,” Yan Yu said with a smile.
“Okay, honey, come back soon!” Zhao Qingqing called sweetly.
Su Han rolled her eyes at Yan Yu. “Try taking advantage of me again, and I’ll toss you from the eleventh floor!”
“Heh heh.”
Yan Yu grinned wickedly and hurried out, leaving Da Hei at home.
After leaving Xinghua Community, Yan Yu soon arrived at the door of Xia Liu’s house on Jiangbin Road.
He’d lived at Xia Liu’s for more than a month now, and the only thing he couldn’t bear to leave was Aunt Xia Liu’s affection.
At that moment, Xia Liu and Zhou Xiaowan were tidying the lawn in the yard. Yan Yu naturally joined them when he returned. Xia Liu smiled at him, “Xiao Yu, how was your night at your classmate’s house?”
“We studied hard. Look, I’ve got dark circles under my eyes,” Yan Yu joked.
“Studying is important, but you must take care of your health too!” Xia Liu said gently.
Yan Yu nodded. “What’s special about today? Why are you sprucing up the lawn so much?”
“Today is your Uncle Zhou’s and my twentieth wedding anniversary. We bought this villa together years ago. I wanted to tidy it up so your uncle can feel a little brighter when he comes home… He’s been facing a lot of trouble in business lately and I can’t help him, so I just do what I can to make him feel better.”
Yan Yu sighed inwardly. Xia Liu may have been a strong woman once, but for her family, she sacrificed herself and willingly became a devoted housewife.
Zhou Xiaowan knew what had happened yesterday. She came to Yan Yu’s side and whispered, “Brother Yu, is everything okay with Master Cao?”
“Don’t worry, we’re fine,” Yan Yu replied with a smile.
“You’ve already rented a place, right? You’re not planning to move out today, are you?” Zhou Xiaowan was surprisingly reluctant to see him leave.
Yan Yu nodded, about to speak to Xia Liu and Zhou Xiaowan, when suddenly he saw Zhou Lide drive a Porsche Cayenne into the yard.
What shocked Yan Yu was that the passenger seat held a flashy, middle-aged woman.
Upon seeing her, all the warmth vanished from Xia Liu’s face, replaced by bitterness.
Zhou Xiaowan’s eyes reddened with tears.
“Xiao Yu, go back to your room for now,” Xia Liu whispered.
Yan Yu’s expression darkened, yet he didn’t move. Zhou Lide got out of the car with the woman, glanced at Yan Yu, and asked, “Why are you still here?”
“Lide, is this your son?” the woman asked coquettishly.
Zhou Lide shook his head. “No.”
“Didn’t you promise to settle things with them today?”
“I will, right now.”
Zhou Lide walked up to Xia Liu and Zhou Xiaowan, his voice cold. “Xia Liu, let’s get a divorce. Xiaowan can stay with you. I’ll give you a compensation payment.”
