Chapter 35: Hello Kitty
“Really?” The chubby one was startled, seemingly unable to believe it for a moment.
Su Han smiled and said, “Actually, I’m an old LOL player myself. IG won the championship, so everyone’s happy!”
“I never would have guessed! Teacher Su, you’re one of us!” the chubby guy exclaimed excitedly.
“All right, you guys go play. Yan Yu and I will be inside,” Su Han said, then walked toward the private room with Zhao Qingqing—of course, the two boys couldn’t see Zhao Qingqing.
Yet, their expressions were no different from having seen a ghost.
“Boss, the girl you mentioned… she’s our Teacher Su?” the two asked in shocked unison.
“Yep,” Yan Yu replied calmly, following behind Su Han into the private room.
“Unbelievable!” The two instantly transformed into howling beasts. “Boss, you really are the boss! We’re still trying to figure out how to win the class beauty, but you’ve already charmed the homeroom teacher!”
In that moment, Yan Yu’s image in their minds grew immeasurably tall. Their admiration for him surged like an unending river, boundless and unstoppable…
Yan Yu had just closed the door to the private room when Zhao Qingqing floated to his side, calling out sweetly, “Hello, husband~”
“Uh… hi… hi,” Yan Yu stammered, feeling awkward all over.
“You two go ahead and chat. I’m going to play some LOL—just pretend I’m not here,” Su Han said, opening her laptop and logging into her game account.
She smoothly selected the AI match mode.
Besides the two computers, there was a long sofa in the private room, with a tea table in front. Earlier, the attendant had brought in a pot of hot tea.
Yan Yu sat on the sofa, Zhao Qingqing floating beside him, gazing at him with deep affection, which made Yan Yu’s scalp tingle.
He cleared his throat, glanced uneasily at Su Han, then turned to Zhao Qingqing and said, “So… tell me your story?”
“What’s there to tell?” Zhao Qingqing rolled her eyes at him with a flirtatious air. “Don’t you already know me ‘inside and out’?”
Yan Yu sat up straight, silently reciting a calming mantra a hundred times, forcing his heart to settle down. Then, puzzled, he asked, “Strange. Logically, your range of activity should be limited to the school. How can you come to an internet café?”
Zhao Qingqing pointed to the Hello Kitty plush hanging from Su Han’s bag. “Because of that.”
Yan Yu glanced over and finally noticed faint traces of yin energy on the plush. Though it wasn’t as intense as the yin energy on the wooden comb Zhao Qingqing once possessed, it was still enough to contain a ghost.
However, the yin energy on the plush would gradually dissipate over time.
Yan Yu suddenly thought of the unusually large Hello Kitty plush in Su Han’s dorm—one big enough to fit a person inside.
For some reason, he felt something was off.
“That plush was something I asked Su Han to find. It usually stays in the dorm, absorbing my yin energy, becoming a vessel for me. My true resting place is actually that Hello Kitty in Su Han’s dorm,” Zhao Qingqing volunteered.
“You have a thing for Hello Kitty?” Yan Yu wondered. “Wait, weren’t you drowned? Why would you attach yourself to a Hello Kitty?”
There were so many oddities about Zhao Qingqing. She was supposed to be a drowned ghost but had roamed the girls’ dorm for years, and now she chose a Hello Kitty plush as her vessel. Even the hanging ghost’s choice of a wooden comb seemed more convenient.
Zhao Qingqing said quietly, “I was drowned in the dorm, and afterward my body was stuffed into the Hello Kitty. That plush in Su Han’s dorm was where my corpse was hidden, and it’s where my resentment lingers.”
Even Yan Yu, who had witnessed countless supernatural events over the years with his master, was left speechless.
No wonder the girls’ dorm was so thick with yin energy.
Zhao Qingqing, the drowned ghost, had died in such a way that her resentment and yin energy were much heavier and her power much greater than that of the hanging ghost. Yet, because she still didn’t know who killed her, her resentment was weakened. Despite her abundant yin energy, she couldn’t unleash her full strength—she couldn’t even suppress the hanging ghost last time.
Yan Yu could well imagine: if the Zhao Qingqing before him ever learned the identity of her murderer, she would become an even more terrifying ghost than the hanging ghost—ten times more fearsome!
He swallowed nervously and asked cautiously, “So… your body is still in Teacher Su’s dorm?”
If that were true, Yan Yu would have to look at Su Han in a whole new light. After all, sleeping every night with a corpse dead for eighteen years was something even he couldn’t do.
“Of course not. My body was found long ago. After the police took it away, they tossed out the plush it was hidden in. I secretly hid it. After I got to know Su Han, I asked her to find the plush for me and she even helped repair it,” Zhao Qingqing explained.
Even so, Yan Yu felt a chill run through him. Su Han’s psychological resilience was even greater than his own…
But thinking it over, it wasn’t so strange. Su Han had been born with the ability to see spirits and had encountered more ghosts than living people since childhood. The things ordinary people found terrifying were normal to her now.
Moreover, compared to the hanging ghost, Zhao Qingqing only looked a bit pale, with slightly bulging eyes—she was much more pleasant to look at.
“You’ve told me your past. Now it’s my turn to get to know you,” Zhao Qingqing said, glancing at Yan Yu. “Where are you from? And why do you call me your wife?”
Yan Yu gathered his thoughts and slowly said, “I’m an orphan. When I was two, I was taken in by a nunnery on Mount Emei. On my eighteenth birthday, the nuns told me my birth mother was murdered. The reason I’ve come down the mountain is to investigate the truth about her death. The only clue my mothers left me is the name Zhao Qingqing from Rongcheng No. 1 High School. I suppose… that must be you.”
“Damn it, can’t this Frost Archer play? You can’t even beat a computer—go eat shit!” Su Han’s outburst shattered the atmosphere Yan Yu had painstakingly created. On her screen, a big red “Defeat” was displayed.
She turned around, cleared her throat, and said, “I heard everything you just said… So maybe Qingqing really is the one you’re looking for. Yan Yu, do you know your birth mother’s name?”
