Chapter 115: The Strange Village [4]
Hearing Yan Yu’s shout, the Fatty and the others finally snapped out of it and rushed forward to help hold back Mrs. Li.
The village chief walked over leisurely, glanced at the madwoman who was still babbling on the ground, and said to Mrs. Li, “Mrs. Li, everyone is heartbroken over your husband’s death, but you shouldn't be taking your anger out on my daughter-in-law.”
“She deserves to die! I’ve said it before, she’s the jinx of our village. If we keep her here, we’ll all be cursed to death sooner or later!”
The village chief looked displeased, his face darkening as he said, “That’s enough, Mrs. Li.”
“Don’t you know it in your heart? Nothing good ever happens around her. Your son’s mistress was cursed to death by her too, and my husband back then…”
The village chief’s expression shifted, and he quickly shouted, “Mrs. Li is starting to talk nonsense! Someone, come and drag her away!”
Several villagers who had followed behind immediately stepped forward and hauled Mrs. Li away. She struggled like a madwoman, hurling insults at the madwoman’s parents the entire time.
“Sigh, having just lost her husband, it’s understandable that Mrs. Li’s emotions are unstable and she’s spouting nonsense,” the village chief said apologetically to Yan Yu and the others.
Yan Yu did not look at the village chief; instead, he looked at Zhang Qi, who was standing behind him.
Zhang Qi’s face was shrouded in gloom, and the hatred in his eyes was so intense it was like a pair of sharp arrows, fixed firmly on the village chief.
“Uncle Zhang Qi!” Yan Yu called out.
The gloom on Zhang Qi’s face vanished instantly. He asked in a deep voice, “What is it?”
“You don’t look so good.”
“…Maybe it’s because I drank too much last night,” Zhang Qi said, touching his face.
“Why don’t you go back and get some rest?”
Zhang Qi nodded. “That might be for the best.”
Watching Zhang Qi’s retreating figure, Yan Yu silently crouched down beside the madwoman and whispered, “You saw it, didn't you?”
The madwoman reached out, poked Yan Yu’s chest, and giggled, “Cut it open… hee-hee…”
Yan Yu asked, “Why don’t you tell everyone?”
A fierce glint suddenly flashed in the madwoman’s eyes as she smiled and said, “He… deserved to die… hee!”
“What else do you know? Why did you want me to save you?” Yan Yu pressed.
Just then—
“Woman, you’re out causing trouble again!”
The village chief’s son, Wang Yong, appeared once more. He walked up angrily and dragged the madwoman away immediately.
Yan Yu was about to pursue them, but the village chief stopped him. “Let my son take her away. Everyone in the village hates her; if she stays out here, she might get beaten again.”
Yan Yu took a long, hard look at Wang Yong.
He pulled the photo of Ye Han from his pocket and asked the village chief, “Have you seen her?”
The village chief’s aged, cloudy eyes stared at the photo for a long time before he finally shook his head. “Never seen her.”
“All right.”
Yan Yu didn't ask another word; he simply called the Fatty and Hao Zhuang and headed toward the mortuary.
“Boss… Boss!” The Fatty caught up to Yan Yu and whispered, “Did you find anything?”
Yan Yu replied in a deep voice, “This village is strange. Very strange.”
He was certain the village chief had seen Ye Han, and it wasn’t just a simple meeting!
There was someone—or perhaps a ghost—in this village who was connected to everyone currently involved. The village chief, his son Wang Yong, the madwoman, and Butcher Li—they had all come into contact with this person.
It was the same Ye Han that Yan Yu had seen in Butcher Li’s memories!
But there was one more person whose status was very bizarre. Yan Yu could not find a single link between him and Ye Han: Zhang Qi.
Zhang Qi’s appearance in Fengmen Village was just as eerie as Ye Han’s. This village should have had nothing to do with their lives, yet everyone had gathered here now.
There must be a focal point. If he could find it, Yan Yu would be able to uncover the whole truth.
Zhao Qingqing said, “Hubby, why do you think Ye Han would appear in Zhang Weiwei’s hometown? Zhang Weiwei, she…”
“Zhang Weiwei… Yes, that’s it! It’s Zhang Weiwei!” Yan Yu exclaimed suddenly.
The Fatty and Hao Zhuang were both stunned. “Boss, what are you talking about?”
Ignoring them, Yan Yu spoke to the invisible Zhao Qingqing. “Qingqing, thank you for reminding me!”
“Me? I didn’t do anything…” Zhao Qingqing pointed at herself, confused.
Yan Yu smiled and turned to the Fatty and Hao Zhuang. “Go back to the village now and ask the villagers if they know a girl named Zhang Weiwei!”
“Boss…”
“Stop talking nonsense and go!”
Suppressing their confusion, the Fatty and Hao Zhuang hurried off to do as they were told.
“Hubby, what exactly is going on?”
“Ye Han is not from Fengmen Village. Her only connection to this place is Zhang Weiwei! Once we find her, we’ll definitely know what happened!”
“Then why didn’t you go into the village and ask yourself?” Zhao Qingqing asked, puzzled.
Yan Yu shook his head. “We have more important things to do. Yang Xuefei and Master Cao are still missing; we must find them as soon as possible.”
From the beginning, Yan Yu had not linked Yang Xuefei’s disappearance to the deaths in the village. Her death had nothing to do with Ye Han, so the person who kidnapped her could not possibly be Ye Han. That was why Yan Yu decided to split up.
Back at the mortuary, with the arrival of daylight, the students felt more courageous. Some of the male students organized a search party to head into the mountains to look for Yang Xuefei and Ji Mengjie.
Yan Yu did not oppose this.
After everyone had gradually headed out, Lin Xuan finally woke up.
“Huh? When did it get light out?” Lin Xuan muttered groggily.
Yan Yu forcibly dragged Lin Xuan out of the tent and said, “Wake up, something happened.”
Lin Xuan rubbed his head and said, “With me here, what could possibly go wrong?”
“Ji Mengjie was possessed by a ghost and killed Butcher Li of Fengmen Village, and Yang Xuefei has gone missing.”
“...Holy crap, something that big?!” Lin Xuan sobered up instantly.
Yan Yu told Lin Xuan everything that had happened and what he had discovered. Upon hearing it, Lin Xuan frowned deeply.
“Master, do you have any insights?” Yan Yu was quite respectful to Lin Xuan when he was being serious.
Lin Xuan silently reached out and pointed to his stomach.
Yan Yu was taken aback. “Master, do you mean I should go back and re-examine Butcher Li’s body to see if there are any clues in his stomach?”
“No, my stomach is hurting terribly. It might be because I drank too much yesterday; my appendicitis is acting up…” Lin Xuan said, clutching his abdomen.
“…” Yan Yu.
“It hurts so much…”
“Just get some rest, then.”
Yan Yu stood up immediately, not intending to waste any more time on Lin Xuan.
However, Lin Xuan suddenly said, “You brat, come back here! I still have something to say!”
“The road out is flooded; an ambulance can’t get through,” Yan Yu replied.
“No, I’m being serious!” Lin Xuan insisted. “Didn’t you find a photo where Ji Mengjie disappeared? Do you remember the Soul-Tracking Spell I taught you?”
