Ji Mengjie was a rather proud girl, and she hardly considered any of the boys in their class worthy of her attention. It was therefore impossible for anyone else to persuade her to go out with them. Only Zhang Qi might have had a chance!

Everyone hurried to Zhang Qi’s tent and was just about to rush inside when Zhang Qi emerged, clutching his head. He looked puzzled.

“What happened? Why is everyone gathered outside my tent?”

Zhang Qi hadn’t run away?

Could they have suspected the wrong person?

Yan Yu was about to question him when a girl suddenly screamed, “Feifei… Feifei is gone!”

Yang Xuefei was missing too?!

Yan Yu quickly pushed through the crowd and entered Yang Xuefei’s tent. All of her personal belongings were still there. The only thing missing was Yang Xuefei herself!

After checking the tent, one of the girls said, “All of Feifei’s clothes are here. She disappeared wearing her pajamas!”

“How could she have vanished…”

Unlike Ji Mengjie, who had left of her own accord, there was no reason for Yang Xuefei to leave in her pajamas in the cold mountain weather. Someone must have taken her by force!

Yan Yu cursed himself for his carelessness. How could he have allowed two living people to disappear right under his nose?

“What… what are we supposed to do now?”

They were all high school students who had yet to enter society, and chaos broke out at once.

“I heard Little Meng was possessed by a ghost. Could Feifei have been taken by a ghost too?”

“Zhu Xiangyang saw Little Meng eating human organs outside. Could those organs have been…”

“This is terrifying! I want to go home. I want to go home right now!”

Everyone began chattering in panic. The noise gave Yan Yu a splitting headache, and he suddenly shouted, “Quiet!”

“Fatty, you and I are going to inspect the place where you saw Ji Mengjie earlier. Big Guy, Uncle Zhang Qi, go to the village and notify the village chief. Try to report this to the police as soon as possible. The rest of you stay in the courtyard and do not go anywhere. If Teacher Lin wakes up, tell him everything that happened immediately!” Yan Yu ordered.

The others had been like headless flies, but now that Yan Yu had given them instructions, they nodded repeatedly.

Yan Yu pulled Hao Zhuang aside and lowered his voice. “Keep a close eye on Zhang Qi. There’s probably something strange about him.”

Hao Zhuang clenched his fists. “Don’t worry, Boss. Leave it to me!”

Yan Yu nodded and led Fatty outside.

Hao Zhuang said to Zhang Qi, “Uncle Zhang Qi, let’s go report this to the police as quickly as possible.”

Fengmen Village had no internet access yet. To report the matter, they would either have to find the village chief and see if he had a way to contact the authorities, or follow the mountain road to the highway, where there would be a signal.

Zhang Qi nodded and followed behind Hao Zhuang, his expression somewhat grim.

“This is where I saw her. She was crouching right here, and I don’t know what she was eating…” Still shaken, Fatty did not dare approach and pointed from a distance.

Yan Yu walked over with Zhao Qingqing and, sure enough, found a pile of organs scattered among the bushes.

Zhao Qingqing leaned closer and sniffed. Her expression changed.

“They’re human organs… a heart, intestines, and kidneys. Nothing is missing.”

“They aren’t Yang Xuefei’s, are they?” Yan Yu asked with a frown.

“No.” Zhao Qingqing shook her head.

Yan Yu felt slightly relieved, but he did not let his guard down. Those were human organs lying before them. Their presence meant that someone had certainly been disemboweled!

Only Yang Xuefei had disappeared from their group, yet the organs here did not belong to her. Could the dead person be someone from the village?

“That’s strange…” Yan Yu surveyed the surroundings. “Fatty said Ji Mengjie was possessed by a ghost. But why would the ghost choose Ji Mengjie? And why would it kill someone?”

“Perhaps Ji Mengjie’s vital energy was weak, making her easier to possess?” Zhao Qingqing suggested.

“Between Fatty and Ji Mengjie, whose vital energy is weaker?”

“Fatty’s.”

“If you were that ghost, you would choose Fatty as your target too. Yet the ghost chose Ji Mengjie.”

Zhao Qingqing asked, “Do you still suspect Zhang Qi?”

“It’s too early to draw any conclusions. Let’s wait for news from Hao Zhuang and the others.”

Just then, Yan Yu noticed a photograph lying on the ground.

“What is this…”

He picked it up, and his pupils suddenly contracted.

He had seen this photograph before, in the file Su Han had given him.

“This is a photograph of Zhang Weiwei, your mother’s roommate!” Zhao Qingqing exclaimed.

“There’s no mud on it. It must have fallen recently. In other words, it came from Ji Mengjie. Why would she have a photograph of Zhang Weiwei?”

At that moment, Yan Yu finally understood.

He finally remembered who the person was that he had forgotten and left in a corner of his mind.

Three days earlier, Master Cao had come to Fengmen Village to help Yan Yu search for Zhang Weiwei.

Yet so many days had passed without Master Cao contacting him. Busy with the affairs at Su Garden, Yan Yu had temporarily forgotten about him.

“Could something have happened to Old Cao too?” Yan Yu grew anxious.

Fatty said fearfully, “Boss, can we go back first? It’s freezing here, and I’m afraid Ji Mengjie might suddenly return.”

Yan Yu put away the photograph and led Fatty back.

With two female students missing, the others were terrified. The girls did not even dare go to the bathroom alone, while the boys were all pale-faced as well.

“That old geezer still hasn’t woken up?”

Yan Yu sighed. He had originally brought Lin Xuan along, thinking that the man might prove useful when necessary. In the end, he still had to look after him himself.

The mysterious Zhang Qi, the possessed Ji Mengjie, the missing Yang Xuefei, the madwoman at the village entrance…

Yan Yu had a vague feeling that there was some connection between them, but he could not find the breakthrough he needed.

Before long, Hao Zhuang and Zhang Qi arrived in the courtyard with a large group of villagers. The villagers carried flashlights or torches, and all of them wore grim expressions.

Leaning on his cane, Village Chief Wang Fugui said, “Students, something has happened…”

“What happened?” Fatty asked nervously.

“Someone in the village is dead…”

“Our class monitor is missing too!”

“So is our vice monitor. I heard she was possessed by a ghost!”

“Someone even saw her eating human organs!”

The village chief sighed. “I believe we’re talking about the same matter… Li the butcher suddenly died. He was found in his own courtyard, disemboweled, with all his organs missing…”

A chill ran down everyone’s spine.

Fatty had been telling the truth. Ji Mengjie really had been possessed by a ghost, and she had killed Li the butcher, tearing out all of his organs…

“Call the police! We have to call the police!” one of the students shouted.

The village chief shook his head. “The upper reaches outside the village have released floodwater, and all the bridges leading out have been submerged. We can’t leave the village at all, and there’s no signal here either…”

Despair swept through the group. Were they really going to be trapped in this sinister village?

Watching the students descend into chaos, Fatty panicked too.

“Boss, what are we supposed to do now?”

Yan Yu’s brows drew tightly together as he lowered his head in thought.

Why did everything seem as though it had been arranged in advance?

Were the villagers deliberately behind it all, or was it… that man named Zhang Qi?

“Village Chief,” Yan Yu said quietly, “could you let me see the body of Li the butcher?”
